Late last night leaving a friends house I found a tiny stray kitten. It was crying soooo loud and it was freezing so I wasn't about to leave without at least attempting to get it. It came to me pretty quickly and immediately started purring and cuddling in my jacket. It's entire fur was covered in those really sharp pokey thorns that stick to your shoes :( The whole drive it was crying like it was in pain and when I got home it was shaking and pawing like crazy at its face and I quickly realized it had one stuck in its mouth. I was able to carefully take it out and as soon as I did he seemed so relived. Went from a loud pain filled meow to a more low curious one. He got comfy really fast and took to playing with my other cats toys right away. I did cut off the few thorns that weren't completely tangled or too close to the skin. Today me and my mom put baby oil on the rest of the thorns and we were able to remove all of them. (Had to have been way more than 20) He doesn't seem very wild, or sick either. Barely any eye boogies and no runny nose. He's really good and such a cutie. He has fluffy smokey gray fur and big yellowish green eyes.. I already love him lol :( My question is, what should I do for now about the cut in his mouth? The thorn was in the very front of his mouth and it was bloody when I removed it. It doesn't seem like it bothers him too much but I can see that his gum is red and swollen. I plan to take him to the vet but because of money issues I won't be able to for at least a week. He ate moistened cat food really well and when I don't have the door to my room closed I have him in my dogs old crate to keep him out of my 13 year old cats way. She's the very spoiled queen of the house and unfortunately isn't very friendly with other small animals. I've taken in a few other stray cats before, cared for them while I could, and have always been able to find them a good home fairly quickly. It's different with this kitty though, He's just so lovable and Im already so attached to him!! I don't know what to do. Also, I put a little box in the crate with some litter but he ended up using the restroom in a corner under my bed, so I'm guessing he's not litter box trained? He's still a baby, but definitely not new born. Thanks in advance, Any advice at all would help a bunch!

First step is to get him to the vet.  He needs to be check out especially with all of the thorns.  He will need shots as well as getting dewormed.  You don't want him near your other animals until then.

If you decide to keep him, cat to cat intros can be done.  They often take time and patience, but most cats can learn to coexist if the intros are done properly.  I can provide articles and a video clip on introduction techniques if you are interested.

But first be sure he is vet checked.

Thank you for caring and rescuing him.

yes that would be very helpful! I already took a trip to the vet and turns out he's a she! :) Got her dewormed and her shots are up to date, and she is perfectly healthy. Now I'm just trying to introduce her to my 4 month old puppy who one minute doesn't care about her and the next lunges at her trying to bite. I haven't even tried introducing her to my old girl yet. She's only seen her through the crate and goes absolutely crazy.
