It's possible to feed them each food they enjoy and need.  Each of my kitties has its own bowl and food requirements, so they don't share a common bowl. I stand and supervise and keep them out of the bowls.  It's not the easy thing, but it's what my gang needs.  You might have to try something like that.

What did the vet say?
darn it she has not returned my call. It will have to wait til Monday.
My cats have their own bowl but I have one common bowl for dry food. It would not be possible for me to eliminate that. My cats go crazy even if there bowl is going on empty. Spoiled rascals, lol.

They will accept it if that's how you do it.  It can be tough to transition, but it can be done.

wish I could but I know I would never sleep again. I have 2 cats that run across the bed right over me when there bowl gets low. Doesn't matter what time it is.  They are so bad!

Anyway, I do  appreciate your suggestions.

To keep them from doing that at night, have a thorough play session before bed, then feed them a small serving of high protein food, especially canned food works well.  That is their normal cycle, play, eat, sleep.  Doing this mimics their natural pattern and helps them sleep through the night.  I've brought 5 cats into my home, from 9 weeks old to just over a year old,  and started them on this routine.  After about a week, they slept through the night and still do.  I don't leave food out for them either.  The only one I did was when we brought the 9 week home and he was isolated.  He had food access 24/7 while he was in his room and at night when we'd leave him in there.

Hi all,

I finally heard from the vet and she said that she is switching Rocky back to prednisone 5mg. He was on prednisoline 5mg. She said sometimes they do better on prednisone.

Also, I asked her about the PCR test and she said that the flagyl would have covered most parasites, but that she thought it would be a good idea to deworm him and see if that is the problem.

I am picking that up tomorrow. Don't know the name of it, but it is something he will take over 3 days.

My question is do you think that is going to be too hard on him, a dewormer and pred in the same day?

The vet said it would be alright, but these meds really effect my cat. Poor baby.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Karen

Even some non-grain cat foods contain plant matter that might cause irritation. I would consider trying Nature’s Variety Limited Ingredient canned food. Also try feeding a protein other than chicken, many cats have an allergy to chicken. You could also try a high-quality Omega 3 as it has anti-inflammatory properties. I think this is a really good one https://www.ascentahealth.com/product-info/pets/felineomega3/

Did your vet test for coccidia and giardia? Or other parasites?

Hi, no she did not test for coccidia and giardia, instead, we just put him on Panacur for 3 days, which would kill parasites. Afterwords, I saw no worms or anything.

I have this Natures Variety but have not tried it yet. How long do you think he would have to eat it before I would know if it works?

honestly I would get  all the fecal testing done too, not all parasites will respond to Panacur. I think about 3 or 4 days on a new food should  be enough to determine if it helps

ok, I will take him in next week and get the pcr fecal test. My vet told me that if I put my cat on Hills zd, it could take 4 weeks or more to see if that works. I have some cans of that also, but have not tried it because 4 weeks is a long time to determine if this food will work or not, meanwhile I am worried that is not the problem. I guess I need to go for all the tests to rule out everything.

Glad you are getting the pcr test, you need to rule out parasites. BTW I am not a big fan of many of the "vet cat food" I would go with a limited ingredient food and consider lamb it is the easiest meat to digest. Best of luck I hope you can help the poor little fella.

Thank you, I will give it a try.  It's a big mystery now. I wish they could tell us what is wrong, lol.
