My young cat(4montgs old) had extra saliva after eating.Went him to vet,who said that he has an infection in mouth and gums.He gave antibioticsThe worrying thing he said, is that some cats have the above symptoms when they inherit from mother autoimmune diseases like leukymia and AIDS...blood test will clear this out...Also said that if wont get better his teeth must be taken off!!!!! It's true that cats who test positive for FeLV (leukemia) and FIV, especially FeLV have a higher risk of teeth issues.   If he is FIV, he should do fine and can live a long and happy life.  If he has FeLV given his young age he is at great risk, must not have contact with other cats at all, and given all possible support to see if he can throw the virus off (some can and will re-test neg later).

Both of these disease are auto immune disorders, FeLV is not actually leukemia. Usually the test is a snap test done on the spot and takes 10 minutes, so i'm confused why you don't have a result yet.

Very strange he didn't mention snap test, it is what everyone does......I'm concerned he sent the blood out for more expensive testing that isn't needed.

Yes it is strange, although he didn't take blood sample?!?!He said that tests will be done later, after treating stomatitis. The best thing is that you informed me and now I will ask for the snap test.

Unclear why he didn't do the test right away...although i would agree that if you have only the one cat there is no pressing rush to do it, but why not?
