Hi all,

I am new here nice to meet you all.

Ill try to be specific.

Caramel, met her in garden, adopted as balcony-garden cat. She was sneezing excreting yellow stuff from her nose. Had 7 kittens from, 2 born dead, 4 healthy (all adopted) and the love of my life Big Head.

Months after birth Caramel became very thin but she re-cooped and now is my fat healthy girl (she also sleeps on couch with me from time to time).

Anyway Big Head was the runt of the litter. He was thrown out of Caramel's hut when feeding etc. I realized was not a mistake. Even months after she will caress and clean her daughter and attack BH.

The whole building loved BH, we made him a villa in the back of the garden, he got into his routine. He lived with 3 other stray babies i saved. All the other strays were growing and looked healthy...he didn't.

Born 1st April 2015 he had some off days in the summer where we took him to a small vet (not much machinery around) and she gave him antibacterial shots and anti fever shots. She always wanted to see him every 3 days per episode for 3 times. I estimate we went to her and she did this same thing 8 times. He did start eating after the shots.

Then we stopped taking him he ate more than my big cat psu. He always ate non stop and begged for food non stop. He played and run around in our lovely garden.

Then he stopped playing much, in the mornings he still climbed one set of stairs and miowed his screechy weird miow to be let in. All his days were spend inside and his nights sleeping in his villa as we called it.

If he didn't come up because the communal door was closed he always waited where the sun hit, always.

He continued to eat like mad, like i have never seen this he ate everyone's food then followed me around for more. All day he ate.

Some days we noticed from above his belly was like he swallowed a tennis ball, some times only on one side. I forgot to add the vet said his breathing is a bit laboured i could see his abdomen moving not like normal cats.

He still did not grow. We reached the 5 month mark and he weighed an unbelievable (from what i read online 2 pounds). September we take him to a clinic as he does not play much, he either sits still or sleeps a lot, he slept a lot on me or on his matt at my neighbour's house. He only got up when someone went into the kitchen and followed and screeched for food.

Clinic time.

Doc does blood test and an x ray. Says he has air in his stomach his breathing is ok but ok ish does some shots and tell us to go back next week for other results. We go and he says it is FIP.

I don't even read up (yeah i know) and my neighbour goes to the UK (end of september). My smart boy comes up every morning finds my door spends the day and at night goes to his villa to snuggle with his friends (who are now 5 times bigger than him). He basically sleeps on me all day but will also come back to watch me do laundry, or just sits on his pillow mostly sleeping. He eats like a piggy.

He started peeing inside my flat i cleaned. He loved sleeping next to a heater even though it was not cold. I forgot to add he stank a lot and never groomed himself i found a tick on him (i always followed procedure clean, stronghold etc).

This Monday (3 days ago) as per usual he comes up 8am i let him in all well, eats sleeps rests. I take him down Monday night (he would never ever ever stray from his procedure, back garden his villa, wait in communal door ALWAYS stays in property he is the mascot). Generally he is fine as alwaus but for some time now when he jumps the ledge he does not go over he kind of grabs the top with front legs and pulls himself up so his hind legs were a bit weaker probably.

Tuesday am no BH. I go down to feed nowhere in sight. I can't stop crying, Caramel and one stray keep coming to my balcony and i am trying to make them all stay down in their beautiful houses but they come. BH can't cause he can't reach he came indoor as stated earlier. I will NEVER forgive myself for letting him downstairs but that was our system everyone loved them lovely houses lovely food snacks during day playing etc.

I start researching online and realise can't be FIP cause he would be so bad he wouldn't eat etc. I speak to a vet in america and explain he is certain not FIP and he says the photos are normal show a small cat but that his weight is low (at 7 months and 15 days he still hadn't grown from 5 months he was still 2 pounds). 2 pounds at 7 and a half months.

3 days we have been tearing apart the building and garden he is nowhere to be seen he has never ever done this 7 months. He is realiable on us he is not self dependent he never leaves the garden.

I called the vet that use to do the antibacterial and anti fever shots she said she agrees doesn't look like FIP and that he would not die like that when the night before he was eating acting normal. The american dr agreed but suspects heart disease (he called it something).

He is nowhere, he can't have hidden so well he never hid even when he had vomiting episodes month back and did not eat. I don't know what to believe tom i have a vet appointment ill get BH test results and grill him.

I moved from the UK to Greece 1 year ago so many strays i spend most of my day feeding strays taking them to the vest, adopting is pend so much money yet i feel like i let my BH down. I do all this yet i did not put him in the balcony house as Caramel her daughter Uber and others come and sleep in the houses there. He loved his villa i checked sometimes 3am he was there snuggled in his many blankets.

I am 39 and i have been crying like a kid so shameful. I have been looking 10 hours a day am exhausted.

Sorry about the long post guys nice to meet you

bless u all

Welcome, and I am sorry for all you are going through.  You have done so much for BH and he is blessed to have you in his life... and its these little ones that need so much that add so much to our lives. I hope by now he has shown back up - but we must always face that possibility that he is gone.  To where, and for why we may never know.

Hugs and prayers.

Molly Blue thank you so much for your reply.....i did some stuff but i left him in his villa when he could have been in the balcony house. Things are out of control i was trying to get them to stay there. He was inside all day.

No, i took him down 9pm Monday as always, i went down 10am Tuesday as always i opened my door he wasn't there (which is fine cause the neighbour sometimes takes his dog out later) then i went down to the communal door and he wasn't waiting in the sun as always. Then i went to his hut in the back (10 metres after a corner) and no Big Head :(

It is not Thursday (pm i haven't seen him 3 days :(:(

If anyone has any medical input ie is 2 pounds for a 7.5 month old cat extreme? He really did not behave like he wasn't his normal self last time i saw him.

Ill upload some fotos you won't believe he looked like a gremlin huge eyes huge big head when young so cute. He just showed love quiet calm love. I should have never let him in his villa Lise said he has been there 7 months he sleeps there he has learned it is fine . I do not know what happened its so quiet back there and all cats know each other. I wish i knew if he left on purpose i don't know i put posters around the block :(

thank you for your reply i won't say more i cant eat or sleep i am just tired sorry if i make typos

I look forward to seeing photos.. that is small for a cat, but you have had him to many vets, and I am not a vet, so I cannot comment on his health.  If BH has not been neutered, it is possible he wandered off on his own to explore, to mate, for whatever reason.  As small as he is, he could have been pray for a large bird or a racoon.  If he was born with a congenital defect, he could have just known it was his time and wandered off to find his final resting spot.  I wish I could give you easy answers, but there just are none.  Indoor cats tend to live longer safer lives, but I think you did your best for poor BigHead, and what you did, you did out of love, and not out of cruelty.

Molly Blue thank you,

You know its hard. I have been back in Athens 1.5 years.

I started feeding stray cats (i wasn't a cat lover).

My friend the called he found a cat in a box, i went, i cried when i saw her. Mutilated, tortured covered in 1000 flies.

i Took her to the vet the thief vet where he said we put her to sleep when the iv went in i couldn't do it. I asked for a leukemia and aids test he said no need she will be positive she has been cut with a knife bitten by dogs and is diseased...i have never seen an animal like her.

Cut it short i paid 300 euros for a couple 20 min tests (no blood) she was negative...i kept her in the balcony she dint leave as vet said she would.

Then i find out she has a broken ear drum when she was tortured..then haemobartonella then pneumonia. Money money money she now lives inside she is psu. She is like a needy dog i take her to vet no cage she follows me everywhere will only sleep hugging my neck.

Before that i tried to save Mustaffa another stray that came to my balcony (he and BH my favourite animals of all time). 400 euros go home he is fine. Next day call dead all misdiagnosis (i didnt have experience) lies and more lies more tears.

Whitey, 911, Jihad, Bear, Caramel, Uber, Caramel's babies till adoption, Silvestre, Big Head, Bengali Tiger, Oranje in garden-balcony feed and vets.

Another 50 in my area in the streets. Some dogs in another area.

So i build em houses downstairs in the back everyone loves them so i thought its fine BH is fine. Some come sleep in the balcony no excuses BH should be there as he cant leave from there but his home he loved and he never left at least had he died in the balcony i would have known. Once again i didnt research the FIP diagnosis (no way he has fip no way).

I just feel so bad if i did not have psu he would be inside so we made inside all day either at mine or Lise and at his villa at night worked fine he had his friends everyone in the building considered him teh mascot the owner is 70 yrs old and cries and looks and calls and tries.

BH, maybe cause of his weakness would never be angry. He would get hit he would just sit and take it never ever a reaction. His huge eyes (maybe a neurological condition staring at you so calm) and i left him to his fate. Ill pay for it and i deserve to feel so desperate.

Ill send you some fotos when someone tells me how i am sorry not good with these things.

Only info i have is

vet 1 who did all those shots i initially said i called her she said its a miracle he lived this long

Vet who diagnosed FIP said he will be up and down is ok (FIP kills fast thus he is full of c...

vet usa says no FIP since he eats walks loves

I dont know what to think anymore :(

On the repy tool bar, there is an icon that to me looks like an envelope, but then look again and it looks like mountains and sun.  That is the where I insert photos.  Beside it is icon that looks like film strip and one that looks like calendar.  Just scroll over them and they will tell you.  I haven't tried doing it from the paper clip icon, but that one might work too.

What a little sweety.  Well do keep us posted, but I have to say from the photos, it does look like little biggie was nto doing so well.  In life we can focus on the things we cannot change, or we can focus on the things we can. you cannot change things that already passed with biggie... so don't beat yourself up over whether you shoudl have left him inside, or never taken him inside, or listened to the vet, or demaned more answers from the vet... these things are in the past.  Biggie is lucky to have so many friends in your garden and for so much love to be flowing his direction...

Thank u Samnandy,

Today i looked less. i hate vets. They confuse me. I asked him today u said he has FIP. He said in my opinion. He means the carrier virus. Then said cat was fine. If the cat has FIP he will die end. He has no FIP end.

Anyway i havent found him i just dont understand why and where he vanished 8 months ritual and he vanished :(:(

i miss him. I am only asking as an online vet said 2 pounds at 7.5 months is grossly underweight and suggests problems since birth am asking if anyone with similar cat made it through.

I dont know what else to do vet did say wont live 3 days in the street as he is so frail

Hi all,

Update.

Never found BH, kept looking.

Uber, his sister, also a quiet cat, slept a lot, never really played love to sleep on me before retiring every night to her balcony house (never left the balcony like the others), looked weird on Saturday. She wouldn't leave her hut for food (she would attack usually), ate a bit drank water. Yesterday, Sunday i saw she was slow, drank plenty of water did not touch her food, wasn't even interested in running from psu (my home cat). I had her on me all day when she turned to change position took her ages, her eyes were half closed. Like BH, i woke up to take her to the vet. I went out she wasn't awake waiting. I looked into her house and she was upside down dead hugging her ikea grey mouse.

She was also same age as BH obviously as they were siblings weighed about 3 pounds also did not grow (not as extreme as BH of course who was 2 pounds) also lethargic.

Went to vet he opened her up could not find anything he still claims BH had clinical FIP and said uber probably the same and that both of them were not right since birth. Uber took her antibiotics when she was younger, flea drops (vet said she had fleas) parasite pill and that was it. My USA doc from my descriptions doubts BH had FIP but who knows. It is over anyway now.

Am quite certain BH died as well then without being sure.

Tears the usual. That is it fols ill rest a bit now nothing more to update ill take caramel to the vet for blood work when Lise is back from the UK in a week, caramel looks behaves normal very energetic clibs trees plays sits on me and bumps my head with hers to play etc.

God bless you all

Paris
