For a few days now, Jade has been congested (i.e, breathing through her mouth, snot in her nose), but it hasnt stopped her eating, the opposite, actually. She eats all the time, but either is overeating or eating too fast, and throws it back up sometimes. She is an indoor/outdoor cat, but has been indoors a lot recently because she hasnt been feeling well. Her cheeks are swollen, and looks for all intents like she has a cold. (sneeing, congestion, generally just lying around more then normal)

My question is two parts.

1) Is the congestion and the eating related? I know that most of the time when a cat is sick she wont eat because she can't smell her food.

2) What can I do about her congestion at home? I really don't want to waste time and money for a vet visit to find out this is something I could have taken care of at home.

You can put kitty in a room with a steam vaporizer to help clear up the congestion. Definitely keep her indoors.
Vomiting isn't usually a symptom of a uri. It's good that she's still eating but I would consider a vet visit if it continues. You need to be concerned about dehydration as nasal congestion and vomiting will both deplete kitty of precious fluids. I suspect the vet would give Jade subcutaneous fluids if you took her in. My Oliver currently has a uri and I'm giving him 50 ml a day as per vet's recommendation. Even if you don't want to take her in you should probably call, my vet is great about giving phone consultations.

If this has been going on for a few days, I think a visit to the vet is definitely in order. If this happens to be a bacterial URI, a round of antibiotics is all she may need to get better. Swollen cheeks are a strange symptom for a URI and a vet needs to check for stomatitis and other possible causes. If she's still eating, count your blessings, if this doesn't clear up she may very well stop eating at any point.
