The critter you have in your picture is a hedgehog no matter where it's found. A porcupine is a completely different animal.

Shanx8,

What a gorgeous girl you have.  I am utterly enamored with tri-colored cats, be they calico or torties, like my own Hekitty.

Hope your hedgehog friend comes back.  If there are kibbles out, I'd say the chance is good.  The dog I grew up with had a skunk friend who used to come to the back porch and eat with Kim (the dog).  The skunk had babies at the same time that Kim did, and the...skunklets?  skunklings? skunkettes? well, baby skunks and the puppies used to play together.  Some time after all the babies were grown and gone, Kim met up with the wrong skunk, and never quite trusted any of them again.

hey  Mamanyt1953,

thats awesome, we dont have skunks here in new zealand, only possums, :) but i bet they would make a good friend for a dog.   (oops just removed bold text)  anyway did that wrong skunk friend of  kims do a "smelly skunk spray" maybe, hehe that would be enough to make me not be a friend :)

Oh, it did a smelly skunk spray in spades!  Kim didn't care for baths at best, and repeated baths in tomato juice just about tested the limits of her considerable patience.  Be glad you don't have skunks.  Trust me, you aren't missing anything that you would want to experience, unless eye-watering, foul, acidic odors are among your list of "Gotta Have This."  Poor thing.  She looked like she'd been betrayed, and I guess, to her, she had.

I've been blessed with a series of wonderful, intelligent animals with more than their share of personality (and unintentional comedic value) throughout my life.  Makes for good story telling!

Seriously?

That does not sound too pleasant!

No i don't think i do want  "eye-watering, foul, acidic odors" hehe.

i could always dress my cat up as a skunk like in this one i seen on Pinterest... :)
Oh, that is just too, too funny!  Dunno what the Divine Ms. H. would do if I tried to dress her up, but I suspect stitches would be the least of it.  She's not one to tolerate nonsense (in her eyes) lightly,  Or at all.  I quit trying to bathe her after a trip to the emergency room for stitches.
