How old were you when you learned to ride a bicycle?

I think I was 6 or so before i learned to ride with no training wheels.  I was always so scared of falling.  I remember one day we were somewhere with a friend of my mother and her kids and one of the daughters had a bike that was pretty low to the ground and had a big banana seat (remember those!?).  I guess it was less scary so i tried and i took right off.  I was so excited.

Banana seats LOL :D

I don't really remember.  Surely before 10 because by that time we moved to NJ and I know for sure I was riding a regular bike.  But, prior we were living in Brooklyn and there weren't places to store bikes other than the tricycle I had a a very young kid. So, maybe I learned somewhere but didn't actually have a bike yet?  It's a mystery to me but somewhere along the line, I learned.

March 1, 1962! I got a brand new red two-wheeler for my 5th birthday! I never used training wheels and I can remember my first... shall we say... attempt? LOL

Why in the world my Dad did this is beyond reasonable thought! But he got me on the bike just outside the back door, explained how everything worked (or was supposed to work) and gave me a shove - down a 75 foot gravel slope toward the barn! OMG! I kept it upright the entire way... down the slope, into the barn, and right smack into the stall door!

I was holding on for dear life and was proud as a peacock that I missed the front of the barn and made it through the 30 foot wide door! But, I forgot what he said about keeping my feet on the pedals and using the brakes! I was going SO fast that the pedals got away from me and I was holding my feet straight out to the sides so my feet didn't get caught in the spokes.

I got some scraped knees and a scrape on my arm and the little red bike survived the whole ordeal. My second attempt went much better because I started half way down the slope and turned toward the front yard and got it stopped (using the brakes!) on the grass. After that, I was a Pro!

Ironically, that was the only year I really rode a bike because at the end of that summer is when I got my horse. That was a no-brainer! I lived on the back of that horse for the next 13 years!

I really don't remember exactly. I think I was about 6. My older brother taught me. I had a yellow 2 wheeler with (of course) a banana seat. It was around 1976. I remember him teaching me. We lived at the top of a hill and there was a flat part of the road before the hill started and it was a winding hill that went down and around. He held onto the back and I rode and as soon as I realized he had let go, I fell.

It's kind of embarrassing, but I must have been at least 12. We lived on boats and in caravans a lot when I was a kid and so it wasn't really the best place to learn to ride a bike, even if we had room to store one. I learnt to ride a pony before I tried riding a bike.

Hmm.. without training wheels?
I think 12! Only because my friends had bikes and I wanted my own. I love bike riding to this day and I turned 30 in Sept. We have snow now so no bike riding til Spring. Boo!

I actually don't remember :/. And being the oldest, I don't have older siblings to remember for me, and my parents apparently have terrible memories :p. I do remember "teaching" my younger brother though :lol3:. I had a Japanese bike with a kickstand that lifted the back wheel off the ground so you could sit on it and pedal it without moving like an exercise bike. My brother loved doing that. One day we were at the park and he was pedaling the bike, and I kicked the kickstand out from under him and off he went! He was really mad but after that he knew he could balance a bike on 2 wheels. I think he was about 5.

...with the cats...
i don't remember at what age i learned to ride a bike, but i'm sure i was around 5 or 6 years old. i also had a bike with a 'banana' seat on it -- those were very comfy. as a kid i rode my bike all over the area. there was one really steep part of a road very close to our house, and it took repeated tries to ride up that hill on my bike.

I think I was about 12.  I was just too scared of falling!    But I also waited until 18 to get my drivers license ( I HAD to - I bought a car for college!)
.   I still hate being on wheels.
