I'm new here, but I really wanted some advice on something.

I adopted a 7 month old Siamese mix kitty a few weeks ago. When we got her, she had an ear infection, but the person we adopted her from gave us her medication and we continued to use it, and now she is fine.

However, she has had a stuffy nose and has been sneezing frequently. She eats just fine and is very active, but after she lays down for a while, she starts to meow and she sounds stuffy, then she starts sneezing. Once she is up for a while again, she is fine!

She has a vet appointment on the 28th, but I just want to see if anyone thinks it might be urgent to get her a sooner appointment. She doesn't seem to be in any pain, but I'm a new cat-mommy, so I'm looking for additional advice.

If she has a lot of discharge from her eyes or nose that is a funny color or even bloody, or was obviously lethargic then I would try and request a sooner appointment. I'm betting she has a URI (upper respiratory infection) that is basically a kitty cold. A lot of cats get them when they're stressed for whatever reason. From your description she doesn't seem to be very bothered. In the meantime, consider asking your vet about lysine supplements that can help boost your kitten's immune system.

Thank you. I woudn't say she's lethargic, she was running around like a maniac last night , and the kitty boogies I've seen on her are just normal colored, no redness or blood.

My apartment is really dry, could that be a contributing factor? I know I get stuffy when the air is too dry I'm wondering if kitties can get the same way. If so, I can get a humidifier to keep in the main room of the place.

I'm not sure, maybe? Bring her into the bathroom with you when you shower, that'll loosen up all the crud in her nose and help her breath. I've been doing that for so long with my allergy cat that he comes running into the bathroom when I shower.

Yes, we have a stuffy kitty too, but hers is chronic. Our daily routine involves her morning steam treatment wherein I start the shower as hot as it will get a few minutes before I am ready to get in, and I leave the shower door open a bit so the steam gets out (but the water doesn't).  I shut the bathroom door and go get Snowy.  Snowy really likes taking a ride in her box (another story) but I use that as an enticement.  She jumps in the box, we go for a cruise around the apartment, into the shower.  Sometimes she will come stick her head in the shower with me, but she hates getting wet... After I get out of the shower, I wash Snowy's face to get the much out of her eyes and nose, and then scrub her chin because she also has chin acne.  Sometimes when I get home she will go in the shower and cry...thats how much she likes her special treatments in the morning.

Snowy also has a bed in the kitchen on a little end table I stuck in the corner.  I will put a large pot of water on to boil and just leave it boiling away.  That also puts warm moist steam out.  We do have a humidifier that we used to run when we were sleeping, and that helped too.  Snowy is also on the Lysine supplements.  She hasn't required another vet appointment for almost 6 months now.  That is quite an accomplishment as she was very VERY sick when we got her and it was constant vet, different antibiotics, shots, a whole big hubaloo, for her first 6 months with us.

Good luck with your stuffy kitty and hopefully once she gets over this, she will be all better and wont need so much special treatment.  :D

I tried the shower trick, but my bathroom is super tiny and I think she felt trapped, she didn't like being in there one bit! I do make sure to wipe away anything on her face in the morning and when I get home from work. Her eyes don't water noticeably, but she does get that eye crust every so often, which I wipe away.

From what you guys have said I think she is okay to wait until the 28th. She's not acting out of character (in my experience of cats, anyway) so I'll just make sure to keep her cleaned up and keep an eye out fot any change.

Thank you so much

Sorry she didn't enjoy the shower.  I think thats why I started using Snowy's box ride with her because at first she wasn't quite sure what to think of it either, but once she found out how much better she feels after... now she loves them.  On weekends when I don't shower so early, she will go in and wait for me.

For the chin acne...you can actually use a little human zit cream on her..she make sure its dry before she licks it snd a tiny dan is all you need. Plastic food snd water boels can cause it. Ceramic or stainless steel are way better. Weve had zero chin acne since switching bowls.

Necause shes having discharge and was so sick before, I personally would not wait until the 28th. Discharge usually warrants a need for meds and thats a very long wait for an apppointment. Also, with her meowing and getting stuffy when at rest, it sounds like she is struggling breathing in and out...like we do when very congested. Think how it feels to be really sick for a long time...and sometimes waiting to see a doc only worsens the issue.

If your normal vet cant get you in...it could be a good time to find a back-up vet as well. They're always good to have.
