Hi, Mrs Beasley and I are new to the site. I have learned a lot from reading about concerns and replies. Thank you for sharing!

Mrs. Beasley is 12 years old, has had some difficulty keeping weight on. Normally she weighs about 5 pds but now she

is weighing in at 4 pounds. She was vomiting frequently and lethargic. She has been through blood work and exams with no reason. Our vet put her on a wet cat food with a lot of protein. Mrs. Beasley wants to eat all the time, drinking normally and using her litter box normally. Today I put a dog sweater on her to keep her warm....she acts like a drunk sailor with it on but she has been dealing with it. She went to her room a short while ago and came out. In the short time her right eye is normal but the left pupil is almost as thin as a needle! I am worried and don't know what to do! I hope it passes but I will call the vet in the morning. I have read about this in previous threads and understand there are several reasons it could have happened. I can rule out head trauma but am so scared she may get worse during the night. I am hoping some one can help me! I don't know how to include a picture. She has been my love for 12 years and now she is experiencing these issues and can't get an answer.

To all who have written they have recently had to make the choice to let their kitty go you are in my prayers. When you are ready visit your local shelter and adopt.

Thank you for reading this and replying!

I wish I could offer help.  A vet exam asap is obviously needed and I am sure she will still be with you tomorrow.  Has she been examined for inflammatory bowel syndrone?  One eye with a change in pupil size is worrisome. Keep her comfortable and get her to the vet tomorrow.  A full work up is needed.  Hang in there.

The eye condition is probably entirely separate from the rest of the symptoms and I agree, it would be the more pressing issue. How is she now? What did the vet say?

Hello everyone,

I am sorry it has taken so long to provide an update. I don't know where to start.

Sadly, Mrs. Beasley has crossed the rainbow bridge just this past Saturday. It has been an impossible heart breaking couple of weeks.

Since starting this thread Mrs. Beasley had been constantly wanting to eat and lethargic. She was skin and bones and after her vet appointment they still did not know what was going on. She was put on Purina DM for the protein to help put weight on her. They had run tests and ruled out parasites and thyroid issues but mildly dehydrated so they hydrated her and sent us home with a weight recheck appointment 2 weeks later. At first she appeared to be gaining weight and was almost herself again then slowly she declined. I was anxious for her appointment b/c she had started going out side her cat box. I grew more concerned as the days went by because she started looking like a bag of bones. 2 days before her appointment I was more anxious for her to see the doctor b/c of her bathroom behaviors were not normal for her. The next day, the vet left a message on my vmail that they had to cancel her appointment. I was frantic and called but not able to get her in during their hours (I was at work;  out of town). I stressed my concern and they decided to give her an antibiotic (w/o seeing her) because she might have a bladder infection. I didn't question it because I assumed they had a reason to think this. The next morning I went and got the medicine. When I got home from work I gave her her first dose. I noticed she appeared confused when I took her to the cat box she dldn't know what to do or she would lay down in it. Now it is Thanksgiving and the vet went on vacation until the following Monday! No explanation, nobody to check her out! The day after I took her to another vet who gave me hope. By this time I was sleeping on the floor with her limp lethargic body, giving her water by syringe, feeding her wet food off a spoon and taking her to the cat box. She could not wait any longer. He did not know what to think without taking tests. I explained what the other vet concluded it was not but he wanted to do his own. The tests came back DIABETES! A 3 pound cat eating a diabetic cat food? She was limp and just stared in the direction her head was positioned. The vet came in with hope....if she stayed over night, got hydrated then they could see if she was responding to the insulin. I left her in their hands with hope but it was selfish. I should have let her go then. The next day I went to visit with her and I was appalled! She looked worse then the night before. She had so much diarrhea they couldn't keep her clean and she was limp, she was clearly not getting better. I balled as I told then to euthanize her. I couldn't hold her she was so frail and continued to have diarrhea. Then it hit me; upon examining her this vet said diabetes causes brain damage! The confusion, inability to drink b/c  she couldn't smell water and going outside her box! I had had another cat that had diabetes, why didn't I recognize the symptoms? Her weight.... When they stopped the IV minutes later she took a few breathes and I knew she was dying. The

vet tech gave her the medicine and soon after she was gone.

I am angry at myself for putting my little girl through all of that. I miss her terribly but know she is healthy and happy once again. I also know she knew I cared for her and was with her until the end. I just wish I had followed my gut and not prolonged her suffering because someone gave me false hope.

Animals or humans; the medical field is all about money. I hope I am not offending anyone but after this experience, it is how I feel.

Many thanks to those of you who had inquired about Mrs. Beasley. If you have any questions regarding the above content please ask. I hope to educate one person in Mrs. Beasley's name.

God Bless and Merry Christmas!

Stephen,

Thank you for your advice and concern for my Mrs.Beasley. Continue helping those parents of furry family members, you are doing what you need to be in order to guide us parents. Mrs. Beasley has been with me through thick and thin over the past 12 years and I feel I have let her down. I hope some day to hold her in my arms ( I am assuming you have read my update).

God Bless and Merry Christmas!
