Rico and Ozzy wanted to play with the Da Bird toy but were too lazy to actually stand up....they both laid on their backs and swatted at the feathers when they came overhead but wouldn't get up to chase it.
The cat in the window?
Lovely. I would like to read more of the cat in the window.Regardsanneno2
Glad to hear they both recovered!
Oh that is hysterical. The last time Hekitty showed any interest in chasing anything was the night (yes, night) a sparrow flew in my front door. It ended badly for both of them...bird and cat bashed head on into the wall. I got the bird out, and both recovered.
Oh, poor kitty, knocking herself out against a wall! Lucky bird to have survived that.
It was one of those life-changing experiences. The bird was circling the living room, trying to dodge the cat. Hekitty was circling, leaping like a demented bullfrog, trying to catch the bird. I was ducking and weaving, trying to survive the two of them. They finally got to one end, and shot straight down the length of the room. The bird hit the wall just above the stereo. The cat hit the wall just below the stereo...and there they both were, laid out on their backs, out cold.
I snatched up the bird, and hauled it downstairs to the big elm in my yard, and tucked it into a crotch in the tree. Birdie was sitting up on its own by then.
Crawled back up the stairs to find Hekitty sitting up and shaking her head.
I watched at the window till I saw the bird fly off under its own steam. Hekitty spent the next three days patrolling, hoping to find the bird still in the house.
It's amazing how long a cat can remember something when it involves food / hunting rather than what you don't want them to do.... I got in one day to find my previous 2 cats ignoring me rather than running to the door like normal. I went and organised myself changing clothes etc then noticed there were excited squeeky clicking type noises coming from my bathroom. When I opened the door fully to see what they were up to, both kittes were taking turns to jump up and down like little bouncing balls, one in the bath and one on the small area of floor next to it. When I looked up there was a tiny little bluefinch baby perched on the shower curtain rail - thankfully just out of their reach. The bathroom window had been left open about 2" and the baby bird must have landed on the window ledge and hopped in. Bad mistake. It was pertified. Luckily I was able to manoeuver it in to a large plastic food box and lift it over to the window ledge away from the cats. Pleased to say it managed to fly away after a few minutes. My 'girls' pestered to get in to the bathroom for literally weeks afterward so they could check out for any more fun.

Funny about the patrolling--mine have done that sometimes. They'll bring in a rodent and I'll catch it and take it back outside but the cats don't understand it's gone and will spend hours looking for it. Silly cats.
"But...but...it must still be here...it was an offering for her!
