I am wondering if anyone had dealt with something like this. My cat has recently been diagnosed with both hyperthyroidism and end stage kidney disease. She has also has blood in her urine. She has received antibiotic shots twice, 2 weeks apart, and the most recent being a week ago to treat a bladder infection. However I noticed blood in her urine again last night and she is peeing anywhere but in her box. I'll take her to the vet tomorrow, but I am wondering if anyone else has had a tricky infection like this, and what the vet did to treat it. Thanks in advance.

My cat went through a bladder infection after PU surgery and had something similar - it seemed to get better but then before the antibiotics were even finished he was straining to pee and bleeding again. I took him back to the vet with a urine sample, which they tested and found no infection. It turned out to be a case of idiopathic cystitis associated with FLUTD (Feline lower urinary tract disease). This is often brought on by stress apparently. We finished the course of antibiotics for the infection and also gave Cystease and had a Feliway diffuser in the house to calm him down and in a few days it went away. I know nothing about hyperthyroidism or end stage kidney disease however, so maybe this is something totally different associated with those conditions and not what we experienced.

UPDATE - I spoke to the vet and he recommends an ultrasound. He thinks that she has kidney stones, bladder cancer, an antibiotic resistant strain of a bladder infection or a combination. He thinks that the antibiotics she has received so far should have wiped out any common infections, so something is irritating her bladder. Poor girl, I hope we can get to the bottom of this and make her more comfortable.
