Hi everyone,

just today my housemate spotted 2 kittens in our garden, we are animal lovers so of course we are concerned about them. they're on their own, no mom in the vicinity. we already have 4 adult female cats living with us. I have fostered good few kittens including a pair I found in a different garden but they were smaller so it was very is easy to catch them and bring them home, the two we found today seem to be between 7-10 weeks (I'm not sure; they are quite big and self sufficient but their eyes are still blue). they didn't want to get near us but definitely liked the food we gave them and stayed around after eating. we didn't want to stress them by trying to catch them, they would just run away and maybe wouldn't come back. the weather is getting bad and i was worried they might get cold and wet so we made a special box with clothing and more food inside and left it for them under the hedge they were hiding in. they were interested in it. it got dark and I couldn't see much but I saw them around after couple of hours so I gave them a bit more food, I have to mention our cats go outside so I try to keep them in (except Houdini whom I trust to be nice to them, I'm not sure about the rest of our girls). I was out again a little while ago and I could see the little ones running around so it seems they're still here. my question is: how do I go about getting them in, cause I can't stand the thought of them being out exposed to elements, I'm pretty sure that once I get them in I will be able to tame them and get them forever homes but I just don't how to get them in. it's not going to happen tonight I know that but is it going to take long? what do I do now?

Welcome, Tania!!! I would definitely keep the food separate from the shelter so as not to attract predators. Food will be a great motivator. If you have an extra carrier, you can feed only in the carrier and when both kittens are used to you sitting calmly nearby while they eat, quietly and calmly close the door. Keep a large towel handy to cover the carrier so that they can settle down, and also not see you while they are transported inside.  if you can get a large dog crate, that will be ideal to keep them in with enough room for a small litter box, dishes & a bed/box. I line my crates (the same ones that I use for recovery cages for adult TNR ferals) with puppy pads so that I can change the "flooring" without disturbing the occupants too much

I am hoping and praying that you get those little ones into shelter soon, before winter really sets in. Bless you and your housemate for being true angels for those kitties

Thank you. I don't think I would be able to get a crate but I do have carriers. the garden is fairly safe, there are other cats coming in sometimes, one of them seems to be a nasty piece of work, fights with our girls so I'm a bit worried about that. I think that if they're around tomorrow morning that means that they will come around and we will be able to help them.
