Reading this thread, I haven't quite understood if you called your vet or if it was only your friends who called their vet.. Please excuse me, if I missed something.

I can understand if you are financially challenged with 3 kids and all, but let's not forget why you started this thread. It was because you probably noticed that Kit presented some quite alarming issues.

So, if you are not in a position of visiting a vet, at least make a call to the vet that normally takes care of her. For example, the vet who examined her when you first got her, or gave her her first vaccination shots. I am recommending this, because you are already a customer of that vet, so calling them doesn't necessarily mean that you'll get charged for any service..

My greatest concern is that she presents some balance issues and that her head is vibrating and bobbing, as you wrote. These are not good indications. Don't pay much attention to the fact that "she doesn't seem to be in any pain", because cats and generally animals are masters in concealing their pain. That's why you see her still trying to play, chase legs etc.. She's trying to get back to normal on her own..

Please, keep us updated but more importantly, call your vet and seek some advice at the least. It is you who can observe her status and course better. She is very very young, a baby.. And at this age, kitties are quite sensitive, especially if they get attacked like this.

I hope all goes well.

This can be much things from simple vertigo (mess in balance system) to shaking of head, or even worst blooding in head. I know that it is hard financial with 3 cats I have 2, but I am going always to same vet and I have bit discount for example. In any case she must go to vet, special if things do not get better.

Let us know.

I have been in contact with my vet, sorry if I am confusing at times. My friend is a tech at my vet office. She has been repeating the exams and motor skills tests and sending him videos of it. He seems to think she suffered a very slight concussion and has informed me that even if I bring her in all anyone can do is watch and see, that with a cuncusion even he can't do much but pray. But since she is completely fine now he says he sees no point in putting her threw the stressful exams ( because she is half bobcat she freaks out when touched by anyone but us And close friends and family )... Her head is not bobbing anymore and she shows no signs or symptoms that anything even happened. He did say her whiskers were uneven and this could be why... Something to do with whiskers actually working into the balance center of the brain... We think she lost a few in the ordeal.. Basically tho my vet just wants me to watch her and wait to see if she has another episode. And to record the episode if it happens again. Because she didn't have any other symptom other than the balance issue he says it's strange.

I still think there is no substitute for an actual vet exam. A vet tech is not a vet, and it could be worryingly easy to miss something serious that would only be apparent to a vet in a real life exam. A vet visit really is the safest opting for your girl - despite her anxieties about being handled by strangers.

If money is tight this article might help[article="32915"][/article]

I've spoken with my vet and he knows my entire situation and told me to just watch her for now that if she has fully recovered than she should be fine but to closely monitor her for a while.

Oh, OK.. So your vet is the one monitoring the situation. Which is good.

But I don't seem to understand the part where you say "if she has another episode".. What was the initial "episode"? Unless by "episode" you mean Kit manifesting the same symptoms, like balance issues, her head bobbing etc..

Please, I don't want to sound "pushy".. None of us wants to, actually.. It's just that .. you know.. an incident like this, with the dog, attacking a 5 month old kitten, really makes people worry. I hope you understand where we are all coming from

Oh I completely understand... I'm thinking he means that she is fine unless she seems to start having the symptoms again, or other symptoms. She is still acting perfectly normal. My little baby... I'm just glad he didn't actually get ahold of her. After seeing what he did to a puppy later that night I would be down one furry baby. And I know this sounds mean but my husband would have killed the wolf dog had he actually gotten a hold of her.

Kit is doing great she made a full recovery. She had a minor concussion, very minor because they only symptom was the obvious drunken walk. She has just been introduced to catnip for the first time lol she is acting like a drug addict lol

I wish she would. But sadly she has no fear of dogs. She did however respond by trying to go threw me to eat the wolf dog. I haven't had her near any dog I haven't raised since then.

That's great news. Good for her, I hope she stays away from dogs from now on.

I am so relieved your kitty has fully recovered! I must say that she has been on my mind the last few days.. That's why I had the nerve to ask for an update a week after we last spoke! LOL

Since she has no fear of dogs, I think you shouldn't discourage her from interacting with them. It's a good thing she's not giving up on dogs.. BUT, fear sometimes can be a good advisor.. I mean, if she doesn't feel afraid, she might as well interact with another aggressive dog.. So, it's a good thing you're keeping her away from dogs you don't know. Keep it that way! Always supervise, even if you do know the dog! Cats are weird sometimes. They can challenge a dog, thinking "I got this".. Most times they don't! Unless the dog is really timid..

The only dog she is ever unsupervised with is our American bull dog Sophie. But Sophie pretty much raised her since kit was 5 weeks. They wrestle and Sophie and kit groom each other. So I never worry about Sophie hurting her, she is very gentle with kit and even rabbits lol... I am currently training kit to go to my room when people come over ( I trained one cat to hide in my stuffed animals when I was a kid because he wasn't allowed in the house. We got away with it for about year until he had a cold and sneezed ) usually she doesn't go near strange animals or people for that matter, won't even let my kid sister anywhere near her. So I was shocked to see she hadn't went upstairs to my room.

Got here after Kit was all better, and so thankful for it.  If I may make a suggestion, there are several good health insurance policies for pets now.  I am going  with ASPCA, the premiums are very reasonable, they have several levels of deductibles, and several levels of care available, and although you make the payment up front, they are very good about getting your reimbursement to you.   My neighbor recommended them to me, and says that she is so happy she chose them.

I've read about a few of the insurance options, we have decided to just set aside 25 from each pay into a account for pet health care. And I'm searching for a military base vet in my area since we are military. I know other bases I have lived on offered military vet care for at cost.

I do hope that you can find a military vet close by.  If not, write or call your state's veterinarians' association.  There is one.  They might be able to direct you to a vet who gives military discounts.  Just a thought.  And a savings account for vet care is a wonderful idea.  I considered going that route, but with Hekitty, I may be faced with a recurring illness, and am not sure I'd have time to replenish the account between bouts.
