My mom is part of a TNR program in her town. She has several barn cats that's she's trapped and got spayed/neutered. She finally was able to trap one and her 5 kittens a few weeks ago. (She has been trying to trap her for a year!) After momma cat Domino had her surgery my mom felt it was best to adopt the kittens out so they wouldn't have to live in a cold barn this winter. I took one in! He's black so I named him Vader. :-) My mom took Vader in to her vet on 10/29 and he was one pound, estimated to be 6 weeks.

My boyfriend's step daughter took in one of the kittens as well and sadly, the poor boy succumbed to fading kitten syndrome this morning. :-( All the other kittens are reported to be doing well, but of course being the worry wort I am, I'm now terrified that something is going to happen with Vader. He has access to fresh water all day long, uses the litter box like a champ, never slows down and runs all over the place. He seems to be doing fine but I just can't stop worrying! I think I'm doing everything right but I haven't had a kitten before. (I adopted my older cat when he was already a year old.) Do any of you have words of wisdom for me? Should I be worried about Vader getting fading kitten syndrome as well?

He sounds like a healthy, active kitten to me! Just be sure to give him plenty of kitten chow and wet food, and I doubt you have much to worry about. He really sounds like he's thriving.

Try not to worry and just enjoy your busy little guy :).

He will be going in on Monday to be neutered since he will be 8 weeks (If he reaches 2 lbs by then. He weighed in at 1.8 today!) so I will have them do all tests and such then as well. (He is currently being kept separate from our resident cat Bronco until then.) We feed him Wellness Complete Health Kitten in the dry and wet formula. :-)

He looks very small to be fixed to me. You can give him a little more time if you want. He's very cute.

I agree. Since he was on the small side when you adopted him, you could wait another month if you wish.

He's adorable! [emoji]128149[/emoji]

The Humane Society said they can neuter him as long as he's 8 weeks/2 lbs. We may just wait a bit longer though. I definitely will at least be getting his tests and shots on Monday. He was very active this morning before I left for work so my worries have lessened a bit. We're still keeping a close eye on him since his littermate passed away. :-(

Vader had his neuter surgery today! He's just under 2 pounds but they estimated him to be at 9 weeks so they still did the surgery. Little fluff did SO well. He ate all the food they offered him after surgery! Appetite is still huge despite being on pain medication. :-) But the best news of all, he was tested to be FeLV, FIV, and heartworm NEGATIVE!
