There is a stray male I feed outside by my apartment. I have noticed lately that his eyelids seem red and swollen. Any ideas?

Stray with swelling around eyes.

In a perfect world, you would be able to take the cat to the vet to know for sure obviously that is extremely unlikely. If the cat is a tame stray that you could treat his eyes, you might be able to get some antibiotic eye ointment. If he's too wild, maybe you can get a TNR group to help trap him, to get him neutered, he can be given a long-acting antibiotic shot while he is under anesthetic and if his eyes improve, the vet would likely give you some Biomox or similar antibiotic to use as a systemic approach, to put in his food until he clears up and stays clear.
If you can find a safe place to make a shelter, maybe you could give him a cardboard box house. There are all kinds of inexpensive shelters to make. A large Styrofoam cooler with holes cut out works very well. I have lined boxes and old Rubbermaid tubs with egg cartons and scraps of Reflectix mylar insulation. Dry leaves and/or straw (not hay, but oat or wheat straw) also make good insulation. Just remember to provide at least 2 portals, for an emergency escape route so he can't be cornered by predators or other, meaner cats.
