I'm not sure what to do at this point- I know people will probably say take the cat to the vet, but I've already spent around $1,000 in the past few weeks on her, and if this is something silly, I don't want to rush her there again (I tend to be on the over reactive side).

My cat had four teeth extracted on the 26th of October along with a full dental.  She was eating almost two Soulistic pouches of gravy a day afterwards, but lately she had stopped eating as much of it.  I thought she didn't have interest in her dry food, but two nights ago she vomited up some of the kibble with a big hair ball (if the hair would not have been present, I would have been a lot more worried).  So obviously, she's eating the kibble when I'm not looking.  I also thought she wasn't drinking water and getting concerned about that, but I saw her drink a bunch this morning.  So she's obviously eating and drinking when I'm not looking and freaking me out for probably no reason.  She's urinating and having bowel movements and acting great.  She loves to play and snuggle and she's very talkative again.

However, here is my question- when she has been eating wet food lately, she will paw at her mouth for a little bit as if something is stuck in there.  I called my vet's office to ask if this was normal, and they said they could set up an appointment for her.  I said I didn't know if it was necessary, just wondering if was something I should be worried about.  I didn't really get a straight answer.  So does anyone have experience with their cat pawing at their mouth after eating wet food?  Do things just feel weird in there?  Or should I be concerned and take her in?  I'd love to be able to just run her over there at any chance, but I'm out of funds and I also don't want to stress her out further.

Forgot to mention- she did see the vet on Monday and she said everything had healed nicely in her mouth.

It sounds like food might be feeling different to kitty. Try watering the food down so it can't stick in the mouth and see if the pawing stops. Wishing you and kitty well

I did water it down a little bit after she had some this morning.  Hopefully more will be gone when I come home!

I'm going to pick her up some different kinds of food as well in case she's getting tired of the taste of the same old.

This cat is trying to drive me into an early grave, but I love her so much.  It's hard not to go off the deep end at every little thing (that always seems to turn out to be nothing!)

Our cat was doing the exact same thing. She had dental surgery to take out a couple of bad teeth. The swiping and gagging came back a couple of days later. The vet noted that the "swelling" hadn't gone down on the side of her face. Further tests revealed that she had a tumor in her sinus cavity and it was pushing on her throat. We believe she was "swiping" trying to move the pressure/blockage. It was also determined that the cancer had spread to her jaw and that is why her teeth were going bad. Sorry, it's not better news, but this was our experience. We had to put her down.
