My 7 year old is on a special diet for inflammatory bowel disease. However, she's been eating the kitten food! I have to fill the bowl like twice a day. And the kitten is supposed to be getting probiotics sprinkled on his food for his diarrhea, but he's not getting the full dose because the older cat is eating his food. How can I get my brat of a 7 year old to quit eating the kitten food? I don't think there's anywhere I can put the food that Jasper can get to that Rista can't.

My kitten is a major pig but hes not allowed to eat my other cats food because hes on a raw/canned diet for his diarrhea. There isnt a solution besides separating them for feeding. And no free feeding.

@angel3115 kittyluv387 is right.. separation is really the only way.

Let's see if others in the Nutrition Forum can help.

If you have the money, there is a microchip activated food bowl but you would need 2 and in Australia at least they run around the $400 mark (I have this problem with my older male who has allergies eating my kittens food, for the moment, we've given up until she's old enough to be on adult food). These only allow access for the cat that has the programmed microchip.

I did see a photo on facebook the other day of 2 cupboards that had had a perspex front installed and then a microchip activated cat flap at one end so only that cat could get into that particular feeding area, but it would depend on how handy you are (I am not at all).

Beyond that separation and no free feeding is the only solution.
