Hello. We have a stray cat that visits my family's home every night. They feed him and give him water and he's a happy cat except his face and eyes are terribly swollen. He seems to be in pain every time I try to pet him and gets aggressive if I touch him too much. I keep thinking about that poor cat and money is tight right now. Does anyone know or encountered swollen faces before? I also live in the Jacksonville FL area. The humane society is good I'm afraid if I say he is a stray they will not book him in but if I say he's mine I'm afraid they'd think I was neglecting him. Any suggestions?

It sounds like he may have gotten into a fight. If he has infections, he is going to need attention. I would definitely take him to a vet and explain that he is a stray your family has just taken in.

He should be tested for FIV and FELV, and neutered and vaccinated when he's better. If he's friendly enough, is there a way your family can bring him inside? He'll be so much safer.

A quick Google search turned up First Coast No More Homeless Pets. Www.fcnmhp.org

There are two Humane Societies - Clay County and Jacksonville. Hopefully, one of these groups can help.
