We are bringing home our Himalayan baby right before Christmas and want to start the grooming process immediately.  I've read that a comb is better for long haired cats than a brush.  Does anyone have a favorite?

I use one like this. I have numerous Persians (semi retired breeder) and I don't shave my cats so I do a lot of grooming. I really prefer the original greyhound comb because it is more balanced and easier on my wrist and hand, but this one will work fine for one or 2 cats and is much less expensive. Enjoy your new little one and you are smart to get started with grooming right away. Would love to see photos.

I have always used a comb with teeth of 2 different lengths. This gets both the top hairs and the undercoat. It's not good for getting out tangles so it's more of a deshedding comb.

I use this same metal comb, I think it works very well. I also have a little de-matting comb that I use to help thin Gizmo's undercoat. He wobbles and is not particularly cooperative about brushing, so I need to get all that I can when I have the chance.

Do you use the 7 1/2" or 10" longer version of the comb?

I use the smaller one.  I also have a face comb, but that isn't really necessary. A face comb is the same as the other only much smaller. Makes combing the face and shorter hair on the legs easier.

The furminator for long haired cats.  Works great and really gets those loose hairs out.  But i suggest detangling with a gentle brush first.

The furminator removes the undercoat. You still have to comb them before using it. I have owned 2 furminators and never used them on my cats. My husband bought them as Christmas gifts for me. I still say the best thing to own and use with a Persian is a greyhound style comb.
