How long has it been since the surgery?

She may still not be interested in eating because of the anesthesia. You could also take the come off while you supervise eating time.

Its been 24 hrs...she seems hungry & thirsty but only takes treats if i put them directly in her mouth...she can't manoeuvre her head to eat & drink from the bowls. Should I take it off??

You can take it off while she eats and while you're watching. The cone is only to stop her licking her stitches. Put it back on when she's done.

Thanks will try that...my next question will no doubt be about not being able to put it back on!! I live alone so she'll prob squirm & fight against it! Many thanks. :-)

I had my kitten spayed yesterday, I cut down the cone to make it more manageable but I could tell it was frustrating for her to try and eat and drink with it in the way. So I decided to take it off while she eats, drinks, washes herself, and relieves in the litter box. But it goes back on after ward no matter how playful she is.

Last night we had a mess when she did number 2 in the box, but then smashed the cone into it and stepped on it when she got freaked out by it lol. Not fun at 5am.

Sorry to hear about the 5.00am mess - poor you (and kitty)!  Thanks for your comments...I'm going to try taking it off and hopefully getting it back on (that's the bit that's worrying me most)!  And I also feel sooo guilty about not being able to let her outside...she constantly scratches at the door! All best to you.

You can take it off.  I've never had a cone sent home after a spay.  Keep an eye on her incision and watch her for excessive licking or angry redness at the incision site.  She'll be fine without the cone.

I, too, have never used a cone after a spay, and have never had anything go wrong. Ferals can't use a cone and they all come through fine too! She'll feel much better once that cone is gone, all the luck!

When I had Rista spayed and another male kitten neutered my vet didn't put cones on them, and they were both fine. Rista did pull some of her stitches out, but it didn't seem to cause a problem.
