Hello all! I just joined this site, and I have a few questions, if it's all right to ask them here.

I just got a new kitten. He'll be 9 weeks old tomorrow. I also have a 7 year old cat. Rista, the 7 year old, has tested positive for corona virus. She hasn't had any health problems from it. What I'm wondering is what are the chances of the kitten, Jasper, catching it and having problems? Are there ways to prevent him from catching it? Right now Jasper is confined to one room.

Also, how can I get Rista to accept Jasper? For most of her life she's been the only cat in the household. There was a time we had 4 kittens for nearly a year, and she adjusted to that for the most part. Right now she's hissing at the door to the room Jasper is in, and she's hissed at me a few times from smelling him on me. She wouldn't even use the litter box because it was next to the door. A friend of mine suggested scent marking, where I take a rag, rub it all over Rista, rub it all over Jasper, then rub it all over Rista again.

My other problem is our pit bull. Now, the dog does not have a mean bone in his body, but he gets excited around a new animal. I've already introduced them with the dog in his crate, letting him sniff through the cage bars. Jasper did not freak out, which I'm taking to be a good sign. But how do I introduce them without the dog in the crate? Phantom likes to chase cats, pin them down, and sniff. He does it to Rista all the time, but she's a full grown cat. I'm a little worried about an 85lb dog chasing after a 9 week old kitten. He really wouldn't mean to hurt him, but the big dope doesn't know his own strength.

Welcome to TCS :wavey: Glad you found us. I don't know enough about the corona virus to give you any help there. You could post that question in the Health forum.

Check out some of the articles on TCS. There are some good tips about Introducing Cats to Dogs.
