Hi,

I've been taking care of a stray, feeding her, playing with her and giving her a litter box. It's been at least 4 months and she's always around in the morning when I leave and at night when I'm back. Noticed her wheezing and brought her to the vet for a first visit. The vet told me she had to get some teeth extracted as her teeth have decayed badly.

She just went to the vet over the weekend. She moved further into her carrier when I wanted to carry her out to say bye. She got her teeth extracted on Saturday and had to be warded for medication. Visited her today(Sunday) and she appeared groggy. I hope it's because of the meds because she moved away when I wanted to touch her.

The vet suggested she remains in the hospital for a few more days as she needs to heal and get her meds. If she leaves with me, I've to let her stay outdoor as someone in the family is allergic to cats. However, there's a dog in the cage below hers that barks quite a bit.

Need your advice here... Will it be more stressful for the cat to stay in the hospital? Or should I let her stay so she can get her meds and heal properly? I'm in a dilemma coz I'm afraid she'll be scared and stressed in the hospital, yet if she leaves the hospital, she may not hang around as she may see me as someone who brings her to the vet (=pain)

I would say that since she is already there...and appears she is in some pain which is probably why she's moving away from you when you pet her.  She may be stressed at the vet, however, they can control her pain.  If she were home and outside she would need to be in alert mode and difficult to medicate.  To me, the lesser of two evils is safe at the vet.

Thank you for taking good care of this cat in need and getting her dental work done!

Thanks Dandila! I was thinking of the same thing, but i worry she may be stressed and it's not good for her psychologically. Maybe i should ask the doctor if she can be moved to a cage further away from dogs. Just hope she will heal well and be able to eat soon.

It is amazing how much we worry about them, isn't it?  I have six outdoors and everyday I'm worried about at least one of them.  Rest assured the stressful part of her trip to the vet has already happened.  If they move her it will be stressful again but it might work if they could move the dog.

That's her! She was so miserable at the vet...i guess she thought we did not want her. The nurse said she was not willing to eat. She ignored me when i tried to touch her. Wanted to let her stay there a few more days but she looked so sad...and tomorrow the clinic is not open so we won't be able to visit. My neighbour said she could take her in for a few days so i brought her home.

She was so happy to be home she ate up a whole can of food! Sure did not look like a kitty who just had her teeth extracted.
This was her at night after the meds. Struggled a little when we tried to give it to her but was quite cooperative. She was so happy to be free. Rolled on the floor after the medicine!
