Hello!

My newly adopted 8-year-old cat was recently prescribed renal food after finding very slightly elevated kidney levels at the vet. She gave me 4 options to choose from:  Royal Canin Renal LP, Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets NP Kidney Function, and 2 varieties of Hills Prescription Diet Kidney Care k/d: chicken and ocean fish. The vet said to let them know which he likes best, but if he likes them equally, is there one that is better for him or higher quality? Which would you guys recommend? Thanks for any help!

It's honestly up to your cat what he does best on if he has to be on a prescription diet. And what you are able to afford. I have no experience with these foods; I am sure someone else will chime in with more experience. :)

My CKD kitty eats Dave's restricted protein-phosphorous canned food. It's chicken flavor and she loves it. While it does have less protein (in order to achieve less phosphorous), the protein is does have is higher quality. It's also not prescription and can be ordered on their website, or I can pick up at one of my local stores.

Thank you guys so much for your input. He ended up really liking the Hill's chicken, so that's probably what I'll go with for now, but the Dave's sounds very intriguing! I'll definitely look into it
