I have a girl "kitten" of about 3-4 months old. She has grown so much since we rescued her at 3 weeks old. We just reached another kitten, a male of 5 weeks old. Our girl HATES him. We messed up and let her get sight of him when we brought him home (we should have hid him) and she went crazy. He's now in a giant box with a blanket and some food, but she won't even come near us. Every time he meows, she hisses. She's calmed down a little from the crazy state she was in, but she's still not the same. We are moving out in 10 days and taking both of the kittens with us (if my boyfriend can hold out and try to accept the new kitten instead of hating him for making old one upset). Do you think they'll both calm down once they're both in new territory, since it won't be HERS it'll be fair game? Just wondering if I should get rid of the rescue.

He's also sick, and she is perfectly healthy. I'm calling the vet tomorrow to take her to get her booster shot, and to ask about the new kitten. How easy is it for cats to catch upper respiratory ? She's had the shot for it but not her booster.

Most cats take awhile to get used to a new cat. But since they're both still kittens it could take less time. Since the new one is sick I would keep him in a seperate room so that she won't get what he has and so that they can smell each other and know each other are there but not necessarily have to see each other. My barn kitten and the barn kittens that were already there took about two weeks to actually start playing with each other but they can't help themselves because it's someone around their size and age that'll play with them and they'll end up getting too curious to stand being mad

Your original kitten will accept the new guy before too long. Most kittens are curious and love to play, and she'll want a playmate when he's bigger. She's just jealous right now. But it's not a reason to "get rid of" the new kitten.

As long as your original kitten and the new kitten have not shared food or water bowls, blankets, or litter boxes, or played together, and you said they have not, it's highly unlikely that the URI will get passed on. The sooner you get the new kitten to the vet and on an antibiotic, the better.

There's no rush to put the two together now anyway since one is sick. After the move, and he's well, you can begin introductions. Your boyfriend should not "blame" the new kitten for upsetting the resident kitten. It's a normal reaction on the part of the cat - just as a toddler often is upset when mom brings a new baby home from the hospital. It just takes time and patience :).

We gave the new one to a friend because now my cat is completely mean. Even without him here all she does is scream and hiss. She has been hit before, so she's sensitive to people touching her because she doesn't trust people. I'm trying to show her I'm not here to hurt her, but I'm not sure how to do that successfully.

Hmm. Twelve weeks old, you rescued her at 3 weeks, and she's been hit?

So is your friend planning to get the new kitten's URI treated?
