The other day I noticed Fluffy has a scratchy meow.... sort of like it is a sore throat! Should I take her into the vet? She isn't acting sick...... eating, playing, etc just fine. Do cats get laryngitis?

Tigger,

Has she always had that kind of meow or only recently? I've seen some cats that never learned to meow so it sounds like they're growling. I have a munchkin, Shorty who squeaks. Rene's cat cupid does the same thing. Unless your kitty has been sick recently, I don't think it's anything to be concerned about, unless you'd rather check with the vet.

Hi, Fluffy has never had a scratchy meow..... it's always been a high pitched voice.... so, that is why I was concerned. It sounds just like when a human has a cold.... kind of scratchy sounding, especially if you cough a lot and your voice gets irritated. Anyways, I took Fluffy to the vet on Saturday. I also noticed a scab near her throat, so that is why I also took her in, aside from the scratchy meow. The vet shaved the side of her neck, and there was a big scratch..... not big, but kind of deep. He thought that maybe she scratched herself, and it got inflamed. He listened to her heart/lungs,which were all good, and did a routine exam, which he found nothing to be wrong. Her temperature was normal. So, he came to the conclusion it was from the scratch. She also got her yearly vaccine. So, I am not worried anymore. She does 'kick" herself in the head a lot when she is being a nerd! She also scraches, too. I trimmed her toes the other night, since they've never been trimmed....... were they ever sharp! I wouldn't be surprised if she scratched herself! So, that is the update...... nothing major!

Fluffy's scratch has scabbed over and is starting to fall off. I've noticed her meow is starting to sound normal, again!!
