Hello! So, currently Arya's rotation consists of:

Merrick
NutroMax
Canidae

I was thinking of adding Fancy Feast and Purina One and whatever else that is cheap but decent in order to balance out the priceyness of the three she's currently on. I know that a variety of brands and types of proteins is a good thing, but is there a limit to how many brands should be in a rotation?

Thanks!

Not really. I have 3 picky eaters and I like to mix it up so they don't get bored. I keep a pretty wide variety in their rotation. It cuts down on their pickiness when they aren't eating the same thing every day or so

Nature's Variety Instinct chicken, duck, lamb, rabbit and LID turkey

Pride by Instinct chicken, lamb, duck and rabbit

Soulistic Good Karma and Harvest Sunrise

Fancy Feast classics (pates)

Friskies pates

Merrick pates

Purina Muse pates (found in Petsmart)

Nuto Natural Choice- they like all the textures (pates, chunky pates, minced and sliced)

Sheba pates

There's nothing wrong with keeping Fancy Feast, Friskies and Sheba in the rotation but I would stick with the pate versions of all 3. A lot of cats really like these brands. The other versions (chunks, flaked, gravy lover's, etc) are usually higher in carbs and fillers because of the extra gravies and stuff which is why a lot of people who feed these brands stick to pates. Mine actually just prefer the pates from these brands so it makes it easy for me.

I think it depends on how well your kitties deal with change.  My cats never have a problem with changing brands/flavors/textures, etc.  If your kitties are fine with variety, I would say that you can add as much as you want to.

I think rotating proteins is more than brands, as it helps keep them interested in their food and avoid triggering food allergies.
