Cat being picky with food...

Ok Oreo is not wanting to eat the food she has been eating for many months. She gets canned food at lunch. The other feedings are dry food. She has stopped eating the same dry food. She has been on for awhile. I did just open a fresh bag recently. Non of the other cats seem to mind it. So not sure thats the problem. I had some Purina, (sample bag) she eats that. And have given her canned food so she doesnt starve. of course the thing to do would give her canned food. Especially if thats what she will eat. But money is always a factor. (feeding 7 adds up). I dont want her not to go back to eating her dry food. 

This happened once before. She went back to eating her regular food. I just dont know what i did lol. I may have to search old posts to see if i can figure it out. I just hate to have her not eating. She did finally eat some dry before bed. She barely ate any this morning at 7, at 11:30 she turned her nose up at the food i offered. So she waits til lunch at 2pm :(

The only thing im thinking is buy some of the prurina and then slowly switch back to her old food. But the pieces are different in size.  I thought about the FortiFlora but isnt the digestive already on the dry food?

Since this has started with a new bag, I'm going to say that either the formula has changed or one of the ingredients may have a new supplier and she's not happy with that.  I would encourage you to feed primarily canned food, morning and evening, and supplement with dry food for treats or snacks.  Also, get a smaller bag of a higher quality food and see if she likes that.

Wanted to come back and ask for help. We are still having trouble getting her to eat all her food.

 We went and bought a bag of the Purina Gentle. She would eat that when i had the sample bags. She ate it for a couple days just fine.

But now she wont eat it at all. I mixed it with canned food and she ate it, the first time. Its been hit or miss. I tried to give her some canned food the other day and she wouldnt touch it. yesterday she wouldnt eat the canned food. She looks at the food and then back at me. I pushed her mouth on it, to get a taste. She then ate it.  Tonight I mixed the Purina with dry food. She ate a little, but not much. This was after only eating a few pieces earlier. So she has to be hungry. 

DH says let her go hungry, she will eventually eat. Im not so sure about that. 

With the holiday i dont know i can get her into the vet til next week. The only thing Ive heard is the lose their appetite if they have a hairball. So i gave her some cat lax tonight. Im wondering if she cant smell the food? Though she hasnt seemed stuffy or sneezing or anything. 

What has been your experience with a cat not eating, or eating some times and not others? This seem to happen out of the blue.

Mine do the same thing with canned. I'll buy a few cans of something, let them try it and if they eat it, I buy more to add to the rotation. As soon as I do that, they don't want it any more.


What kind of canned did you try? I like to keep a variety of brands, textures and flavors in the pantry for them to keep their meals interesting. I often mix and match in the same meal. Half pate, half shredded, half chicken, half turkey or duck. Stuff like that.

Normally she is not picky. She did this once before and I dont know what i did to get her eating her regular food again. I have 7 cats. So we buy sheba, Friskies and fancy Feast.  They get canned at lunch time. Which she eats fine. But the other meals are dry. She had been eating Authority for awhile, no problems. Then one day didnt want to eat.  I had a sample bag of the Purina Gentle and she would eat that. So we got a 13 pound bag. (smallest they had) ate it fine a couple days. Actually maybe longer(i just looked) we bought it on the 15th. Oddly i started giving it to Shy Guy he throws his food up sometimes. May have been the same time I started to give it to him. I dont know if she realizes it. We 7 of them. I feed her in the kitchen because Alli tries to eat her food. What really worries me is when she doesnt want to eat the canned food.
