Does this look like ringworm?

Hey all,

For several years I have trapped the feral cats in my apartment complex.  The adult ferals I have gotten fixed, vaccinated, and released and the kittens I have socialized and found homes with the help of my local SPCA.  My tally is currently at around 30.  Thankfully, I have never encountered a situation with the cats I have caught being ill or having ringworm.  I am hoping the two recent kittens I have caught will not break that string.

A couple of days ago I caught 2 c. 3-4 month old kittens – long hair tabbys (see picture).  When I caught them they had a lot of fleas and signs of flea bites.  I boarded them overnight at the vet and they were tested for FIV/FELV (neg) and were given a dawn bath and flea treatment.  They have been in my apt in a separate bathroom from my other cats for about 5 days now.

They are eating well and everything seems normal.

However, I have noticed something on the ears of one of the kittens.  First, on the inside of the left ear is flaky skin in what APPEARS to be a round pattern.  Second, on the outside of the right ear is a small spot of what appears to be scaly skin.

I took her to the vet and the wood lamp did not reflect (which, of course, is not dispositive of anything).  The vet didn't *think* either looked liked ringworm, but we are doing a culture just in case.

Ringworm is, to my OCD sensibilities, a nightmare.  As a result, I am quite stressed waiting for the results of the culture!  I have attached pictures of the two ear anomalies.  Obviously, a vet has looked at them and didn't think they screamed ringworm.  I guess I am just looking for second (and third, and fourth!) opinions!  If not ringworm, do you guys have any thoughts on what it could be based on your experiences?  These cats were literally living under a portable building in tight spaces for the first 3-4 months of their life, so I guess it could be anything.

Thanks for your input.

The only ringworm I've seen has been on a human, and I don't remember it being flaky like that. Of course there are any number of things it could be, from dry skin and irritation to fungal issues, but I would try to remain calm (I know that can be hard!) and wait for your trusty vet. The kitties are gorgeous by the way! Thanks for everything you do for all your rescued kitties!

If you have a black light, you can use it to test.  Ringworm glows in the dark under a black light.  Whatever it is, it needs to be looked at by a vet.
