Amazon has a great price on heated outdoor cat house

Just found this heated cat house for $45 on Amazon


I bought one 4 years ago and paid nearly double that.  It comes with a heat pad on the bottom too that can be taken out and used elsewhere too if needed.  The one I bought has held up well.  I do find that it's best when you have it under a porch or covered deck or add a cover to keep the rain out.  The exit and entrance are quite large so rain will get inside.  I think they also sell flaps now, but my ferals would never use a flap! 

I have one of these too and the heating pad is nice.  The doors on the shelter are too large and I don't think there is any thermal insulation in the walls.  Maybe they are coming out with a new model that fixes the above mentioned flaws and that is why it is on sale.  It works in a pinch but my cats prefer the homemade one that my husband made with insulation.  It holds the heat in much better.  You can't beat that price, though.

They are not great for extreme cold temperatures.  Yet for fall and spring my boys love it.  Last winter I had it under my deck for a feral that would not come up on the deck for shelter.  He used it all winter even in the extreme cold.  I tried placing one of my insulated shelters under the deck for him, but he preferred this tent like structure.  I think he liked the huge openings best. 

So if you have a covered area and need a bit of warmth, this is a great price.

I bought a K&H heated cat house 4 years ago, and the heating pad never worked, it never got warm. Instead of returning it to the company, I kept it, thinking it must be getting warm and I just wasn't feeling it. Then I took it to a Petsmart and the sales person tried it and said it didn't work, and I was stuck with it. So if you purchase one, be sure and try it out immediately and not wait to return it if it's defective. You need to apply pressure to it with your hands for a few minutes, and if it works, you'll feel the heat, and if it doesn't, you won't. It's supposed to be a good product when it works. 

I found a pet heating pad that Kitty Tube makes (but for some reason it's not currently available on their website, but you can order it on Amazon and sometimes ebay for cheaper). This pad is safe for use in a pet house with straw, which is exactly what I was looking for, because my feral is accustomed to burrowing into straw in his house during the winter, so I'll give it a try when the frigid temperatures hit. It's pricey, though--60 dollars. I saw one on ebay for 40 dollars after I purchased one on Amazon, so you just have to keep an eye out for a good deal.

The predictions for the Northeast and Midwest is that we're going to have a mild winter and not much snow this year. This week in Western PA we're having Indian Summer--temps in the mid 70's. Maybe I won't even need to use the heating pad this year and let Muffin continue to use his thermal self-heating cushion in the straw, which he likes. Here's hoping to a nice winter this year! Last November the temps were in the teens for two weeks, so I'm enjoying the 70's now!  

I just bought one for my stray/ferals but no one is using it   One of my guys is really big, 15lbs and I'm not even sure he can get in there comfortably. Worse case i might just take the walls down and leave the heating pad exposed. It's not all that cold here right now and he also has a bed he sleeps in.

I have taken the side walls down and placed two of them together.  A few years ago, I had a very big feral and he loved to use the entire space for himself.  Yet on cold nights he did allow the other smaller feral to get in and snuggle with him.

I just bought two. Thanks for the heads-up!

That's a great idea, actually. I just took down one of the walls to see if he likes the heated pad. If he does I'll get a second one and put them together.
