Hi guys. My 8 year old NFC has had a history of bladder infections and bladder stones caused primarily by diet. She was overweight.  I switched her to a wet food only diet and the bladder infections completely cleared up and she's also losing weight.  My concern is that its an unusual sort of weight loss.  She lost most of her body fat around the head neck back and hip bone areas ( I can feel her spine bones) however she still has what I would call a large stomach area, Its not the hanging fat type,  her belly intestine area is firm, round and has a "pot" appearance.

I am not familiar with how cats lose weight normally, if there is such a thing, but I am slightly concerned that something is not quite right.  When she was obese, she did have a round belly so maybe that is just the last thing to slim down with her....

She was at the vet within the last year and all bloodwork is normal and shes strictly an indoor cat. Before I go to the vet and get alarmed over this I am seeking opinions.  She's completely normal otherwise, eating drinking bathroom and activity etc.

Thanks

What did you use to feed her?

What are you feeding her now, and in what quantities and how often?

What did she used to weigh, and how much does she weigh now?

Can you take a picture of her?

I used to feed her EVO dry food, now shes on EVO chicken wet, plus I put out fancy feast chicken, chicken/beef, turkey, and beef canned food as well. The transition was slow because she did not want wet, so I went with the Fancy Feast. I put out one EVO can am and pm, plus two  cans of FF am and pm.  ( i have 3 cats)

Last time at the vet, she weighed just shy of 16 lbs. Now shes right around 12-13 after 5 months of her diet. She is a small framed cat and vet said she should weigh 10-12 ideally.   I will get a pic up later, but shes long haired and so her belly is not that noticeable unless you are feeling it with your hands.

I see what you mean.  She almost looks pregnant (to me, but that doesn't mean much, because I haven't been around many pregnant cats
)

So, is she eating TWO cans of EVO, or are you splitting one can between those two meals?  And what size can is that?  Also, on the FF, is that FF CLASSICs, or some other kind?   I just want to make sure we have all the correct info

she's gorgeous, BTW

She is spayed so I know for sure shes not pregers.  I have 3 cats and that quantity of food gets eaten by all of them. I usually end up throwing out half of the EVO but the rest is gone.

I have made an appointment with the vet because when I was taking this picture right next to a bright window I noticed she has hyperpigmentation in her left eye. Its quite alarming.  It wasn't there before.  But now I cant recall how long its been there or how fast its grown. Now that I think about it, she has had some speckles in her eye, before, what I think of as a normal looking cat eye, but now its not normal looking.

She has iris melanosis, and now I am praying its not cancerous.

Took Faith to the vet today. They did blood work and x rays.  Blood work was fairly normal with some elevated pancreatic levels (not sure what that means).  Temp was normal. Vet checked eye and was not concerned but referred me to an opth specialist.

X rays were a concern.  Her abdomen is fairly round and you could see that the intestines were gas filled and pushed to the rear. What really alarmed me was the vets statement that he could not make out any detail of the stomach, liver pancreas. it was white which to me means fluid filled or a mass in the abdomen.  He is sending them to a radiologist to read them. The fact he didn't say anything concerned me greatly.

I am thinking the worst.  Initially I thought FIP, but no temp, no fluid in the intestines and eating drinking activity are all normal.

Has anyone had a cat have impactions of hair? Shes long haired and that may be a possibility?

I am beyond devastated and completely heartbroken. My poor baby girl has a large cancerous mass in her abdomen. Was not prepared to deal with this in one day. From what I thought was a routine check up straight to specialist and a bad diagnosis.

RIP my poor sweet Faith.  8 years was not nearly enough time to be blessed to call you mine. I will miss you every day for the rest of my life.

Oh No! :( I am so sorry! :hugs:

So true that there is never enough time with our pets. When they leave they take a piece of our hearts and leave their paw prints on the rest. [emoji]10084[/emoji]️ [emoji]128062[/emoji]

Again, I'm so sorry.

I'm so sorry for your loss.  I can't imagine how hard it must be.
