I've thought about getting this, http://www.chewy.com/cat/natural-balance-lid-limited/dp/114105, because the price is reasonable and it would give the kitties variety, but a friend said that Natural Balance has had several recalls. Also, I looked up the carb content online and it looked a little high.

Any commentary on Natural Balance foods? Their prices are reasonable, so I hate to entirely exclude them from my rotation but I was concerned about those two issues.

NB has had a few recalls over the years, you can get more info from this site (posted Feb 2014):

I worked for NB for about three years. I resigned several months after they merged with Del Monte (now Big Heart Pet Foods). BHPF has since been acquired by Smuckers.

The venison and pea is on the higher end carb side; the food contains pea flour which raises the carb level.

I used the food in the past, pre-merger, but dropped them shortly thereafter based on learning things that disturbed me (which I won't get into on this post, you can send me a PM if you are interested).

If you have access to a local indy store, you may want to inquire about Mauri which has a medium range price point for their venison, although it's a bit carby as well due to the use of pumpkin.

Other than Mauri and NB, the only other venison I'm familiar with would be NV - pricey, and contains pork liver.

Maybe do a search online and see if there are any other manufacturers who make venison cat food? Venison in general will be pricey given that it's considered a novel protein and generally sourced from New Zealand.

I really appreciate the feedback!

I definitely think that I will not feed it.

Very interesting. I currently feed the calamari and salmon natural balance version. But about a month ago I bought the fat cat is well. And now one of my cats has urinary issues. Wondering if it's the fat cat...
