Hi everyone, I own a miniature/dwarf kitten named Nano which I have had since day one and I am worried she might be pregnant. She has a large belly that isn't going down and her nipples are enlarged and sticking out a lot more than they did. Though I am old 16 i have been there through many queens pregnancies and have been there for many births. I was even there for Nano's birth, her mother was also a smaller than normal cat and managed to give birth to 2 live kittens ( 2 born dead). Though she is nowhere as small as her daughter Nano. I have asked my mother to book appointments but at this present time we are having money issues. Am am terrified that Nano is to small to give birth and that she wont survive it so I was wondering if anyone had any advice and or past experience? If there are things I should be mindful of or should keep an eye out for?

Any information would be greatly appreciated and hopefully I can get an appointment before its too late.

Thank you.

-Abbey

Welcome! She is adorable. If she mated with a larger cat, she might have issues.  What country are you in? If you are in the U.S. and worried she will have trouble with her pregnancy you can apply for Care Credit to have her spayed.

I think this is a clear cut case of spaying, even if it has gone quite along now.    Frankly, I dont understand why you hadnt done it earlier??

A clear cut case of  spaying to save moms life.

Anyways, take an appointment with your vet ASAP, and let him check her out.    If its not pregnancy,  she must get help.

If it is pregnancy, you will discuss what to do.

If by any reason, spaying is not used at your place,  the vet must of course standy by on red alert, to be ready to assist with emergency cesarean when her delivery comes.

Observe, unlike humans, you cant do the cesarean beforehand - its higly risky for the kittens - they dont manage well to early delivery - so a cesarean saves hopefully moms life, but is a high stake gambling with the kittens.

While taking the spaying somewhat earlier,  is no chance at all for the kittens, but its calmer for everyone,  and a much safer bet for the mom, as everything is prepared, no emergency last second hurry.

Best is of  course to spay before, or at least, very early in the pregancy, but we are alreado beyond this point....

Please continue to report and pleask ask further question.

Good luck!

Thank you for your reply, she wasn't spayed earlier as we were told due to her size and deformities that she wouldn't be able to concept have kittens. Though now that has been proven incorrect. i will look into what options we have, thank you.

Proceeding to think. If your girl is healthy otherwise, it may even happen she can deliver normally.  After all, its not unusual midget women get healthy babies with full lengh men.

Although its not anything I normally would recommend.  Also, the super tiny women and midget women in question, do have access to modern obstetrics and possibility for cesarean, both premade cesaerean and emergency cesarean.   - That is, those living in modern countries with decent medical care for the population.

Kittens do not manage well a pre-cesarean, as said.

And if she has also other issues than being miniature cat..

Anyway, you must discuss it over with your vet what to do.   If late spaying is feasible to you, let it be your main alternative, please. Its the only somewhat safe way here.   The delivery is much more riskier.

Hi everyone!

I was hoping some of you guys could give me some advise as to how close my cat is to labour.

My miniature 11 month old kitten Nano has had the temperature between 37.0 - 37.7 this being the second day. Yesterday she was in a lot of discomfort trying to get comfortable even now comfort is an issue. Her belly is now a lot lower and due to her size I can constantly see the kitten/ kittens moving. She is also eating a lot constantly and usually she hates belly rubs but she now craves them. As she is at a high risk for birth problems I want to make sure I am there to monitor and help so any help you guys can give me is greatly appreciated.

I am unsure as she would not alow me to feel her belly. Though now it's the complete opposite . Yesterday I roughly measured one to be between 7cm and 9cm. Will send picture when I get home, Am out at this point in time :)

Temperature isn't a reliable indicator of delivery. I thought you were going to have her spayed? What did the vet say?

Before she has them, the kittens will drop down into the birth canal. This will make her look less round and you will feel the kittens move less. She will also lose her mucus plug.

Here are some articles that should answer your questions.  She is very cute.

Get supplies NOW.  If you wait until you need them you may not have enough time to get them.  Are you in contact with your vet in case you have to bring her in at the last minute?  It would be good if he was aware of the situation beforehand.

I tryed to get my mother to get her in but she could not (or wouldnt )

so temperature isnt reliable? I guess thats one less thing to worry about unless nessasary.

My mother ssid to let nature run its course but we have a vet on call otherwise.

Do cats lick up their mucus plug or do they leave it as I am away during the day.

I suppose both is common.  Many forumists do witness they saw the mucus plug, but many queens must lick them up.

Her wanting rubbing the tummy is also typical, it helps her prepare,  it helps the hormones go going.
