Hi everyone,

My cat Daisy (2,5 yrs old) is prone to bladder problems. She has repeatedly had bladder infection in the past (such as a bacterial infection) and struvite. When her urine was back normal, I gave her 'normal' food (good quality food, but no special veterinary food),  the struvite came back again, so that's why I give her a preventive food for cats with recurrent bladder problems.
She is now on Hills Urinary Stress for a while and she was doing fine. Her last urine check was good.

A few weeks ago I went to the vet for an annual vaccination and the vet said she is a bit overweight. I knew that already, but the vet pointed out to me that it would be better for her to lose about haf a kilo.
Therefore, in consultation with the veterinarian, decided to continue to give her the same food, only the light version. I think it is called Stress Urinary Hills C / D reduced calorie.

Actually, since she has started on this variant it strikes me that it's like she is hungry most of the time - and it is not that I give her not enough food over the day.
Especially the last few days I really notice this difference in behavior. She's now a week or 3/4 on the light version (mixed with the normal variation due to the transition to the light food), but the last few days she meows quite loud when I am in her surrounding, asking me for food. The food bowl is quickly empty. Daisy's always been a cat who likes to eat, but it strikes me that she obviously has an increased appetite now.
In addition, it seems to me that she also drinks a bit more than usual - though I can not say this with any certainty because I have three cats. In addition, I also know that this food stimulates her drinking.

About a year ago the vet checked her blood levels. (Not for a particular reason, I was worried about her, as I am always worried about my cats so sometimes I visit the vet too fast I guess). Anyway, the results were fine. No specialties. No diabetes, thyroid was good, kidney values too.

Furthermore, I find no other symptoms. She stays until now equal in weight - I think she earlier gains a bit weight than losing weight (which is not the intention but this time of the year - when the winter is starting and it is getting colder outside, she always gets a bit more fat on the body.

What would you recommend? Visit the vet soon or do you think there's a high chance that this all has to do with the light version food she has started with?

My guess is that the reduced calorie food has less animal protein and is higher in carbs. But, you will have to look at the guaranteed analysis on the back of both bags and compare.

just out of curiousity, have you tried Daisy on the prescription canned food? A canned-only diet is far better for cats with known urinary issues than dry food.
(Check out Catinfo.org). But, at least a 1/2 canned and 1/2 dry diet. The canned food is typically more satisfying as well.

It may even be that Daisy could eat non-prescription canned food; but, that's kind of a trial and error thing.

Thank you for the advice. I will check the back of both bags to compare and perhaps I can send Hills an e-mail.

I do give prescription canned food sometimes, but the point is that she doesn't seem to like it. All my three cats won't eat anything from Hills C/D canned food, tried all tastes. The same counts for RC canned food urinary line.
The only prescription canned food that Daisy likes (so far) is Trovet urinary. I will buy that more often! I only keep thinking that if I give her dry food from Hills , she also needs wet food from Hills, no other brands, but on the other hand I think it wouldn't really matter, would it? If I keep giving her Hills dry food C/D and also give her Trovet canned food a few times a week.
