One of my ferals, male named nigel wasn't around this morning so I was worried because he never strays far from his food bowl. But he came back in time for dinner today. But his meow sounds way higher! He doesn't look physically damaged or anything though? I did notice some vomit next to their food bowl this morning though. Any ideas what could have happened to him??

Is he meowing more strongly, alike trying to show he has real distress, OR its the frequency higher, like a  catrate instead of intact male?

Ha he been neutered recently?

He always meows a lot. He likes to yell at us whenever we open the front door. It's really high pitched now. If you have seen the Disney movie up, It reminded us of the dog with the broken collar. He sounds almost silly. I don't think he was neutered. I've been trying to trap him for 2 months and haven't been successful. But I suppose it is possible someone else took him in. unlikely though.

Just want to update... I didn't think of checking his ear that first night, the next morning I checked and it wasn't clipped. And today his voice is back to normal, so I think it must have been an injury of some sort. He's back to his normal self now.

Tomcats have a very special way of meowing when they're giving a mating call to a female cat in heat nearby. It's definitely a different sounding meow--so if he isn't neutered, that may be what's going on.
