Hello, Happy Saturday and Happy Halloween.

What TV shows or movies scared you when you were a kid?

We didn't have a TV when I was a kid. The only time I got to watch TV was at friend's houses, so those elicit 30 minutes of tea-time viewing made a big impression on me.

I remember being scared of an episode of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. The Snow Queen was so scary! Actually I must have been at least 10 when I saw this, so it's kind of embarrassing that I was scared by it.

I remember watching a video of Watership Down when I was about 6 or 7 and having sleepless nights over it. Those rabbit hallucinations really stuck in my head and it was so sad when the rabbits died.

How about you, what scared you when you were little?

I am 59 so I go back to something older, The Wizard of Oz.  I know that seems really tame, a lot of people now probably haven't even seen it.

I actually like The Chronicles of Narnia - The Iion, witch and the wardrobe but I can see how it's scary to a little kid. It's a long movie to get through though.

I like the Wizard of Oz mostly.... but did have nightmares about the wicked witch a lot when I was a kid. I still get creeped out!

I remember being about 6 and it was a Saturday night. My rumpus room was downstairs and I'd been watching tv with my parents and they'd both gone back upstairs for something (it was about 8:30). Poltergeist came on. I KNEW I shouldn't have been watching it, but I did anyway. The bird died, nothing scary even happened but that bird dying coupled with the fact I knew I shouldn't have watched it scarred me for life (I'm a grown up now with kids double the age I was then and I still remember it!).

Night of the Living Dead....scared me half to death at the time. To this day, I refuse to watch it again.

Many, many moons ago, when our son was very young, we were visiting with Rick's cousin's family. We were watching tv and Vincent Price's The Tingler was airing. They were doing research to see what would happen with a deaf/mute to see how much terror she could take because she couldn't scream. It was a weird movie and I remember that the Tingler got loose in an audience and the people had to scream and scream to kill it. Anyway our young son was playing with Lincoln Logs or something and, to be honest, we didn't think he was even watching.

Well, he was. And that night, when we got home and I got him into bed, he started screaming bloody murder. It was a good week or so before he was able to sleep alone again and stopped having nightmares. I felt so bad for him and felt so guilty that I had caused it all. We just didn't think.

As he got older, I wouldn't let any of the slasher flicks or anything like that in the house. I just wasn't going there. I remember one night, a classmate stayed over and we were at the video store. The classmate wanted to rent this one movie and my son looked at him and I heard him say, "Really? You really think Mom is even going to think about going there?" I forget what movies we rented, but the movie the classmate wanted to rent was not one of them.

Fast forward to now and my son has children of his own. We were talking about The Tingler one time; He's never watched it again. He has never seen any of the Halloween movies or House or Wax or any of them. I haven't either. Needless to say, my grandchildren don't watch anything like that.....they rarely watch TV as it is.

I come from the 50's movies genre so I was scared out of my wits when I saw Frankenstein.  I finally was able to look at him without covering my eyes was when I watched the Munsters.  I also was frightened by Dracula's later movies and of course The Werewolf.

Vincent Price always scared the heck out of me too.  When I was a little older, I have to say the movie that frightened me back then and still  does is Psycho.  I will never watch that movie again.

Happy Halloween everyone!!!

OMG! I remember seeing Hush! Hush! Sweet Charlotte with Bette Davis when I was about 10 years old (1967?)! It scared the bejeezus out of me!

I love the old movies! The thunder outside
, shadows in the house, a black cat jumping out of nowhere
,  creaking doors and stairs, the suspenseful music and drama
... you really never know who or what was going to sneak up and scare you.

Forty years ago, on the night they were meant to elope, Charlotte Hollis (Bette Davis) found her lover decapitated during a party, the blood on her dress leading everyone to suspect she was the murderer. Now, in 1964, Charlotte is an old recluse and must fight to keep her home. She enlists the help of her cousin Velma (Olivia de Havilland), who was there at the time of the murder. However, soon after Velma's arrival, Charlotte's mind becomes unstable, and she starts seeing her dead lover's head.

My parents didn't care what I watched to much as long as I never got into any fights and got good grades, so they took me to see the exorcist 1973, I had a hard time sleeping for a few weeks.

Child's Play.  I went to a birthday party when I was in elementary school and the parents let us watch it.  I had nightmares for a long time!

Just about anything....

Wizard of Oz with the Wicked Witch of the West and those evil monkey creatures that flew everywhere, anything with ghosts in, anything with zombies or witches in, and even the mention of a vampire was enough to have me clinging to my parents and pleeding not to send me to bed on my own or sleep with the lights out....   Even a little paper airplane character that was on a kids TV programe used to give me nightmares.

Then there was the old UK favourite, Dr. Who which I quite literally watched (if I had to be in the room) hiding behind the sofa while my big brothers howled with laughter at the silly monsters.

I think I had (and still have) what you'd call an over active imagination.

I'm 65 and the monkeys on The Wizard of OZ scared me.

I used to stay up late on Saturday night with my older brother and watch scary movies like the Werewolf and Frankenstein. He did his best to scare the heck out of me.

Oh my... I can't remember the film.. I have tried to look it up and try finding the title, so I can download it, but with no luck..

It was similar to one of my recurring nightmares as a child, that's why it scared me..

It had to do with some tiny goblins that took over the house of a family on Christmas Eve.. The whole house was sworming with vicious goblins that were pretty violent too! It wasn't like "Gremlins" which had some kind of a comic approach.. Those goblins were so mean! I was about 7 years old when I watched this.. My mother was cooking dinner and my father was lying down, so none of them thought to check what I was watching.

I can still remember it like it was yesterday. I was so frozen, I couldn't turn my eyes away from the TV. There were some serious sleepless nights after this..

Mind you, my 1st film at the cinema, was Stanley Kubrick's "The Shinning" and I was 5 when I watched it.. And I wasn't frightened at all..
But those freakin' goblins.. They did the trick..!

the original Poltergeist ...still not a fan of clowns thanks to that one. My only other phobia is fueled by Jaws. How about the first ten minutes of When a Stranger Called...I didn't do much babysitting after that one!

I can't think of any other movies where 'goblins' invaded the house. Hmmmmmm?

You will remember eventually. Probably like in 3 months from now, you will bolt up in bed at 3:30 in the morning and say, "THAT's the damn movie!".  LOL Let us know when you think of it... I am curious!
