I am not sure if this is the correct forum but here goes......I dropped Zeus off for altering this morning. He is about 5 months old, give or take a day or two. Anyway, the doctor just called and said one of his testicles has not dropped. He needs to cut him and find it! My poor baby!

First the cleft palate and now this, the doctor said is seems he is genetically defective

Should I have waited to have him altered?

I was reading stuff online (never a good idea in my opinion) and it seems his testicles should have dropped by 6 weeks if not in the womb.

Maybe it's a good thing I am having this done now?

Does anyone know anything about this kind of stuff?

Zeus having an undescended testicle (being cryptorchid) wouldn't change even if you waited, so best to have the surgery now when he is young and can recover more quickly.

Basically, he will recover much like a cat that has been spayed. He will have an abdominal incision, though the length will vary depending on where the testicle is located.

I would recommend getting him some pain medication for at least the first 3 days post-op. Your vet may recommend longer. You will also want to limit his activity for a few days. Your vet will go over all this with you.

I'm a bit surprised this wasn't picked up on when Zeus was in for his kitten vaccines. It wouldn't change the outcome; but, it would have allowed you (and your vet) to be prepared for the surgery.

I'm sure Zeus will do just fine and will be very glad to get back home!

OK, yeah I was thinking it was probably good that we know now too, poor baby, I was so surprised when the dr called me.

Thank you for the quick response!

He is good, thanks for asking!

I gave his a pain pill early this morning (around 2am) when I got up to check on him, he looked a little stiff when he got up to greet me.

By 8 am he seemed like his old self, running between my legs on the way down the stairs, just a little slower. Then he ate his breakfast, went off to find a place to groom himself and I left for work.  My son had one class this morning and will be home with him the rest of the day.

Quick update on Zeus, he is back to his old tricks trying to catch the cover dangling from my camera lens as I step through my online photography class!

His stitches look great and he is moving around like nothing happened.

I am so grateful my sweet boy is back to his zany self racing around with his wand toy hanging from his mouth.
