Hello! I have an almost 4 month old kitten that I adopted almost 2 months ago. For the first month I purchased dry and canned kitten food. I left the dry food out all day for snacking and fed the canned food 4 times a day. This past Saturday I took my dog to the free Vet here (he has liver problems and they run his bloodwork every month for me for free), and they gave me food for the kitten (they give out food, treats, litter, toys, bowls, beds, etc). They didn't have kitten food but told me that I could add goat milk to the cat food for her. They gave me Wellness dry food and Weruva Grain Free Chicken Pate canned food. She likes both. My question is regarding her need for extra calories being a kitten. What should I add to her wet food for this? Is the goat milk suggestion a good one? Or should I buy KMR for older kittens and use that? She is 5.7lbs right now. She eats (and poops!) probably 3 times as much as my 10lb dog! I'm doing almost the same as before: leaving the dry food out and feeding canned food now 3 times a day.

Oh, and if it matters, she's blind in one eye due to an upper respiratory infection she had when the Humane Society found her. It hasn't been removed and according to both the Humane Society and my Vet it won't need to be unless she develops pain or glaucoma in that eye, or if it gets bigger (it is slightly bigger than the other).

Full fat goat's milk is great for kittens - it's often used as a KMR substitute. Use whichever your kitten prefers, or whichever is easier for you to get. Both are equally good choices for her :)

Weruva isn't pate cat food. http://www.weruva.com It's all shreds / chunks / slices of meat or seafood in gravy or jelly. Are you sure the canned food is Weruva?

Most cat foods are labeled "for all life stages" so you don't necessarily need to feed a 4 month old kitten kitten-specific food. Your kitten can eat the Wellness dry and the canned food without any extra supplementation. It's generally recommended to feed kittens as much as they want to eat until they reach 6 months old or so. You can however give a supplement if you feel the need to. KMR is fine and there are also gel-type nutritional and high calorie pastes you can give, like Kitten Nutrical. There are probably simlar things in treat form that may be easier to give.

My Aby has been eating a "for all life stages" food since he was weaned with no extra supplementation. He's 5 now and is in good health

Oh sorry that was the name of the dog's can food lol. It's actually Whole Earth Farms Grain Free Real Chicken Recipe Pate.

Her Wellness food is for adult cats, not all life stages. It's called Wellness Complete Health: Adult Health.

I think most canned food is good for cats and kittens alike. I would suspect that it wouldn't matter much when fed along with dry kitten food since the kitten could get nutrients from this food.I feed an all life stages dry food to my cat and older kitten. The kitten started refusing wet food when she was about four months old so now we have to rely on dry food to feed both cats (the older of the two always turned his nose up at wet cat food).
 Cats.

Your post made me realize how small my kitten is when I read your kitten's weight. Mine is six pounds now and she is seven and a half months old. I suspect she won't be getting too much bigger and remain a small cat like her mother.

Good luck with your kitten!
