What to wear for those sharp claws?

I've just started volunteering at my local cat shelter and boy, the claws on the resident cats are SHARP! They go right through my jeans when they're wanting some lap time.

Anyone have any ideas on what to wear? At this point, I'm tempted to wear an apron to protect myself

Hendrix Restaurant & Equipment has PVC aprons for about $15.00.

Not the most fashionable, but it goes down to your knees and is 14 ml thick, so it would be resistant to claws and it would also be easy to clean.

There is a store in Vancouver -

That's a good question. Last week at the shelter I volunteer at one of the kitties decided my leg would make a good climbing post / chew toy. I had on jogging pants. Ow.  Had to try to avoid him while getting the food down / scooping / sweeping / etc.  I need to wear something I can bend and move around in though, so can't imagine what else I could wear.

I worked at a shelter and wore sweat pants. They didn't cut through them lol.

Isn't it fun when you have 4 or 5 kittens "scaling" you with their pointy little claws? I usually wear jeans over fluffy knee socks or tights for an extra layer of protection. We wear mid-calf disposable plastic aprons when caring for unvaccinated kittens, but they shred them and/or climb up under them. A couple of people tried raingear for cyclists but gave up because the pants could only be washed at low temperatures.

Thank you for all the suggestions everyone! I think I'll try sweat pants next time and if that doesnt work, I'll go and get an apron. I love kitties treating me like a tower to be climbed and lived in (but not so much the tools they're using! :lol3: )

Have you thought about getting some leather chaps (as in horseriding)? You might get some funny looks, but I can't imagine claws getting through!

Oooh that's an interesting idea! I imagine I'd feel like a cat herder wearing those. Reminds me of this commericial I saw:

But anyway, yesterday I went to volunteer and wore sweatpants over my jeans and it worked! My legs were safe from by scaling kitties.. although my sweats suffered a bit but they're old sweats and I'm happy to surrender them to sharp claws
I might have to get those leather chaps if I don't want to keep buying sweats haha

Well isn't that a funny commercial! I think the chaps is a great and funny idea, and it would probably work.
