So I've been feeding my kittens Blue buffalo, evo, and merrick wet food and giving some dry blue buffalo kitten when I'm going to be at school most of the day.
Am I going about this right? I'm not free feeding either but my male acts like he's starving after he's had his food.
They're 5 months for the male and 4 months for the runt female. The female was a now tamed feral rescue from a litter I dug out this season and she was at least a pound behind her siblings before they were adopted out and is still very petit. The male is my tabby pointed boy that I got from a neighbor's rescue mama. The mom had two males from a previous litter that are huge cats but not fat.
We are working them into living with our dogs so they are separated from them for part of the day. When we forget to put the dog kibble up he dives on it. I take it away immediately, the kibbles are so big he can't bite down majority of the time haha!
He acts like he's hungry a lot, do you guys have any good feeding schedules you follow? And are these foods good quality, I've read through a bit of reviews so have felt comfortable with them for a while. I seen that switching up the wet food is fine and helps them not be picky.

The usual advice for kittens is to feed to appetite (ie - as much as they want to eat). The easiest way to achieve this is to leave kibble out for snacking and offer timed wet meals alongside.

It sounds to me like your boy is hungry - as his mom had big cats before he might have a lot of growing still to do.

I don't know a lot about American food brands, but the ones you list seem to be regularly mentioned here, and in a positive way.

It sounds like you're doing great - just leave the dry out for snacking on and you'll be sorted :D

I basically free feed my kittens, as they are rapidly growing and should eat as much as they want. Wet in the AM, kibble as a snack all through the day, wet in the PM, and kibble/wet as a snack overnight.

I don't recommend free feeding kittens for sever reasons. Firstly, it makes it really hard to switch them to scheduled feed times later on without them being very whiny. Secondly, that would means what you leave out would be dryfood and that wouldn't be optimal. I didn't free feed my kitten. She was also always hungry. But from closely monitoring her weight and ensuring her body condition was normal and her weight was increasing steadily I tweaked the amount perfectly. Now she is 8 months and has 2 feedings a day. She is just starting to not be hungry all the time. So my tips would be to not free feed but to monitor weight regularly (I did weekly weights) and adjust food intake. I also did a dynamic. Feeding amount for my kitten meaning some days she got more food. These were days when we spent all day at the park (she loved it on a lead) and she would be running around. Mostly just keep an eye on weight and nody condition. Vet says my cats weight is perfect and health is perfect even though I never fed free feed for her.

Ah so researching foods even more now, anyone have good experiences with Canidae grain free for kittens dry food? It got better reviews than the blue buffalo and is a bit lower in cost.  I saw my local store has Orijen which I read is top notch but its almost double the price of Canidae.  Went and got some Merrick grain free wet today at a different pet store than I usually go to and saw they carried some other foods not at my local one.

I'm not sure with dry. I really like the blue buffalo wilderness for the canned. Very high amount of meat and good quality. Doesn't give stinky poops lol
