I am hearing that too much liver for a cat is bad. Does this mean the liver in canned food or are they talking about raw liver? I don't feed raw, but many of the food that my cat likes, contain liver in it. How much is too much for liver in canned food only? Thanks

Too much liver in general can cause vitamin A deficiency. The amount of liver in canned food isn't a problem. Many canned foods have liver as an ingredient so it's hard to completely avoid it unless you feed something that is just shredded meat in gravy or seafood based.

Too much liver can cause Vitamin A toxicity - hypervitaminosis. Vitamin A isn't water soluble so too much would accumulate and cause a problem within the cats' liver, in some cases it's irreversible:

AAFCO determines the minimum /  maximum amount of nutrients required in cat food, including liver so there shouldn't be a problem with canned food.

You can give treats with liver -- in moderation, and not worry about over-supplementation of Vitamin A.

It gets risky if you give a supplement like cod liver oil or vitamin supplements without your vets' approval or too many liver treats.
