My cat Booger is 3 years old, and neutered. He has recently been urinating outside the litter box, pooing in the sink, and howling in pain. Today he had blood in his urine. When I heard him howling I went to check on him and there was a clear mucous pile on the floor with what looked like fur mixed in. I'm unsure if it was throw up or not. I believe he may have a urinary infection. I called the local vet hospital and they can't help us because they require payment upfront. I then applied for Care Credit and was denied because my husband and I have poor credit. We don't have anything left to sell because we have sold our things recently just trying to pay bills. I am so scared for him because this can be deadly for cats if it turns into a blockage. Is there any place that could be of assistance to low income families in the Sanford, NC area? A place that would let us make payments? We are broke and don't have a $1 to our name until pay day. He has a regular vet but they don't open until the morning and I am fairly certain they will require payment up front too. I don't want him to die, please, please help.

This is a serious medical issue.  You need to get your cat to the vet immediately.  I don't want to scare you, but this is extremely serious and could even be fatal.  Call the vet and work out a payment plan.  Call around to other vets and see if someone will work with you.  You MUST get the cat to the vet NOW.

You need to get the cat to a Vet NOW! THIS IS DANGEROUS!

Even if you have to give him up, please let him get the care he needs! He is in severe PAIN.

He could be in danger of complete kidney failure, or full obstruction.

Your cat is in PAIN..

Please, for the sake of your cat, take him to an emergency Vet. They can help you find some kind of financing...

I took him to the vet this afternoon, I had to have him euthanized because there was no possible way to afford a $1,000 for the care that he would have needed. All the local vets were unwilling to help in any financial way including mine. I even offered to work off the balance of his care for free, they said no. I had to go to the local blood bank and donate plasma today just to be able to afford the euthanization. I did all I could think of to keep him alive. I have no resources available or family to borrow from. I don't even have anything that I could pawn that would equal that balance. I feel so guilty for not bringing him in sooner, even though there was no possible way to afford the expense to just bring him in. Booger was my baby, I had him since he was 8 weeks old. I held him close as he passed away over that rainbow bridge today. I miss him dearly and he took a huge part of my heart with him today. All of this is very painful right now.

It sucks that none of the vets in your area were willing to work with you.  I am sorry for your loss. You did every thing you could for your baby.  It is obvious how much you love him.  You made a very difficult decision out of love.  Your baby is no longer in pain and even though it is tearing your heart to pieces right now you made the right decision.  I am sorry you had to be put in this position in the first place. Your baby knows you love him and you stayed with him till the end.  Booger will always have a special place in your heart.  Hugs to you during this very difficult time.

That is heartbreaking and outrageous that no vet would help you, even your regular vet. I'm so very sorry for your loss. I can only imagine the agony you're going through right now.

I am so sorry.  Unfortunately this situation is not unique to your area.  I don't know of any vets in this area that will give care without payment in full even to long term clients.

I am so sorry to hear what happened. I was so shocked and upset last night, when I read the post, that I could not comment.

I am so mad that the Vet care industry has come to this....

All I can say is you kitty is no longer in sever pain. She is pain free and playing in the rainbow bridge...

I am SO SORRY this happened.  I have two orange male tabbies myself - your picture of Booger reminds me a lot of my own Bumper

I'm so sorry to hear this.  It sounds like your hands were truly tied and the most loving thing you could have done was to release him from his pain.  Life is sure not fair.

I am going to lock this thread for posting now.

Play happy over The Bridge Booger.
