Hello everyone, I'm new to this site sorry if I posted in the wrong spot but I'm feeling uneasy and need to vent. I just found my one cat that has been missing for almost 2 weeks in the little window area next to the basement and my other cat that I have been missing for about 1 week on the other side of the house in one of the little windows next to the basement. There weren't any claw/teeth/bullet holes. I just don't understand how they both had died within 2 weeks of each other and found on the opposite sides of the house. We don't live close to the road so I don't think they got hit by a car. One was about 2 years old and the other one maybe 7 months old. Any advice would be helpful please.

I'm so sorry for your loss. That's awful. Have you (or anyone else) put down any kind of pesticide or anything like that that they could have ingested? Do you have any neighbors or are there any people around who might have wanted to harm them and put down poison? If there aren't any marks on them or signs of any violence, that would be my first guess. They got into something toxic. Losing 2 pets like this is horrible and no one should have to go through this. You can take them to a vet and have a necropsy (autopsy) done so you know for sure but other than that, we can only speculate. I'd ask around if anyone saw anything but I doubt you'll get far if anyone was responsible for what happened.

You have posted in the right place and even if you had not you have nothing to apologize for.  I am sorry you had to join us in such sad circumstances. I wish I could give you answers to what happened but I can't.  Our furkids are never with us long enough and I am very sorry for your loss.  Sometimes just knowing that we were able to provide our kids with a home where they knew what it was to be loved and cared for just has to be enough.  It sucks when there are no answers as to why you lost them.  I have never been through what your situation but I wanted to reach out and let you know that you having come to the right place.  There are very caring and compassionate people here who will listen to you vent as much as you need to.  No matter how our babies leave us they always take a piece of our heart with them.  One of my friends had a young cat that went to sleep one night and never woke up.  Neither she or her vet could figure out what could have happened. The best they could figure was that perhaps he had a heart attack while he was asleep.

Hugs to you during this very difficult time.  I have not lost any of my furkids to the same circumstances but I do understand all to well the pain of losing a beloved family member.  You can vent here as much as you want.

I am so sorry for your tragic loss. Word are never enough. Most of us here understand your hurt. Just sending you lots of hugs. I pray that you will find peace. In time, I hope you will remember all the good things instead of how you lost them so quickly with no answers. Hugs and prayers going your way.

I'm so sorry to hear this, it must be terrible for you to find them both like that. Did you find both cats on the same day? I think taking them to the vet is the only way you'll find out what might have happened to them. Sometimes animals die from internal injuries but have no obvious signs of trauma.

Very upsetting for you, I'm so sorry.

My heart goes out to you, no one should have to go through what you did. For two cats so young to die without a mark on them most likely does point to a poison, maybe someone was poisoning moles, mice, or gophers in your area? For two to die almost at once without being sick first certainly points to poison. Did they eat fine before this tragedy? A sick cat often does not eat. When my kittens died of distemper, they died a week to two weeks apart, but they were sick and listless before. The questions will no doubt haunt you, please try to dwell on your happier memories and not this sad ending, it brings nothing but heartache. I'll pray that your little ones made a swift, safe journey to the Rainbow Bridge, they were secure in knowing that you loved them and that they will never be forgotten. RIP innocent ones, you will be forever held in a loving heart!

Oh, Darlin, there are no words, only a long-distance hug.  I'm thinking of you and your two beautiful furbabies who wait for you now at the Rainbow Bridge.

You may never know what happened to them without a necropsy, which is really too expensive for most of us.  I do know that outside cats have a greatly reduced life span due to all the ills and misadventures that fur can fall prey to in the great outdoors.  I believe the current statistics are 3-5 years for outdoor cats, and 15-18 years for indoor cats.

The main thing is they knew you loved them.  They had a home, and food, soft strokes and kind words.  They were happy while they lived, and moved forward without regrets.  That's just how cats are.  We could all learn from that.

Again, hugs to you.

Such a sad, sad, tragedy. I do lean towards the possibility of poisoning. I'm so sorry you lost both of them like that. By any chance, were they dark colored or black?  I only ask since Halloween is coming up. Regardless,  May they rest in peace.

Thank you everyone for your kind words and warm thoughts. The 7 month old was a dark tiger his name was shadow and the the 2 year old was white with light calico markings her name was periwinkle. I too suspect poisoning. I'm not sure if intentional or not but we just got a new neighbor about 4 weeks ago but he has a dog so in wouldn't think he'd put poison out. The strange thing is when my cats would lay in the window they would always be laying with their backs up against the window and it looks kinda like they were just tossed in there, maybe they moved around in pain :'( or maybe I have a new rotten neighbor. It's very upsetting.

Has your neighbor planted anything that wasn't previously there?  Some plants might be (are) poisonous to cats.

Not outside. I'm home for long stretches at a time and in the past 4 weeks I have never seen him outside other then to get into his vehicle to leave and when he returns he heads straight inside. I'm still not sure what happened to them. We've looked all over for poisons.. including antifreeze and the like. I don't understand because they never ventured out of the yard. It still bothers me. I just don't know what could have happened.

Good heavens, yes.  Anything in the lily family is deadly.  Cats have been known to die after licking the pollen off of their paws.

I am very sorry for your loss.  I was always worried about my boy eating mice that had been poisoned by the neighors or something like that. Really sad to have both gone at once.

My condolences to you for losing your two fur babies.

Were they indoor or outdoor cats? Did you check the basement window wells frequently while they were missing? You don't provide a lot of details that could help determine what happened to them. Of course, outdoor cats tend to live shorter lives anyway, and indoor cats who escape don't know how to care for themselves when they're out on their own. This story is so tragic...
