Elmo has done this ever since I can remember. In the evening, he eats the fur stuck to the blankets on the couch... Is this normal? Should we try and stop him, or just let him chew away?

Your best bet is to stop this before it gets worse. Simply take the stuff out of his mouth and gently close his mouth after it is all removed, hold around his nose gently and tell him no hold for just a second- then just release.
