My 6 month old kitten took a weird coughing fit tonight that lasted over 15 mins there was no fur ball or anything. She got spayed 3 days ago would that have anything to do with it? I have a video of her coughing but I'm not sure how to upload it here? I having heard her coughing like this before. Then when I was holding her after I noticed she was kind of vibrating, I have never felt it before. Does anyone have any advice? Here is a picture of the position she was in while coughing...

I would definitely call the vet since she was just spayed three days ago and under anesthesia.

You mentioned she coughed before... Did she have an episode like this prior to having surgery?

If she had a tube down her throat during the operation, that could irritate the throat as well, but if you heard it before the surgey, it could be something thats been there for longer. I'd definately contact the vet though, to make sure its nothing serious.

I also encourage you to contact your vet. Simply being intubated for surgery shouldn't cause the coughing. (In extremely rare circumstances, the tube can puncture through the trachea..this is due to using too large a tube and being too forceful placing the tube.)

Does your cat have any history of upper respiratory issues? This almost sounds like an asthma attack. Though I certainly can't make the diagnosis.

If she has another episode, you might consider contacting an emergency clinic. 15 minutes of coughing is concerning.

Is it possible that she ingested something she shouldn't have...like a string or other foreign body?

Thanks for the response guys. I have heard her coughing once before like this but it was only for a couple of seconds. It makes a very strange noise when doing it, I wish I could post the video to show you. See I wasn't there at the time I was in work and my husband sent me the video. She was coughing every few seconds then he said it became less frequent then stopped eventually.
See I'm doubting it's trouble from the surgery because my cat has behaved completely normally since we came home so she doesn't seem to be in pain.
