Enzo has been licking his lips a lot lately. Not constantly, but enough that I notice. Today I also heard him swallow sort of loud. He just got over a URI and was taking doxycycline but that ended yesterday. I know lip licking can be associated with nausea, but his appetite is just fine and no vomiting. And idea what this could be? He's been through so much the past few week I hate to take him on another stressful vet visit if it isn't necessary.

Maybe you can call the vet instead of taking Enzo in? It could be nausea which could even be a side-effect of the antibiotics which would clear up on its own. As long as he's eating fine, I don't think it warrants another vet visit, which like you said can be very stressful. I would call the vet though. Asking about possible side-effects is important and it's never a bad idea to get a professional opinion.

Let us know what the vet said if you can. I'm curious.

I will definitely keep you posted. Now I'm reading lip licking may be a sign of a tooth problem but he's had most of his teeth removed so I'm not sure about that. Do you think the side effect of the antibiotic, if it is that, would linger for a few days after stopping the medication?

I know that in humans it can definitely last a few days. In humans, antibiotics have known side effects, so a doctor can say whether nausea or a change in taste perception is a known side effect of that specific antibiotic. I doubt there's such information available for use in cats but it's worth asking the vet.
