My 6 1/2 y/o cat, Ally, loves sleeping on the dvd player atop the t.v. I never liked her sleeping there because she will fall from time to time but she loves the warmth up there and I can't bring it upon myself to keep her from doing it so I figured I'd put a cardboard between the dvd player and the t.v. so if she was to fall, the cardboard would alert her that shes falling and possibly she'd land on her feet. It has worked, until tonight. Tonight she was sleeping and I could tell she was about to slide off so I gently called her name and as she went to move she dropped and I'm thinking she landed on her butt. (It's about a 3 1/2 foot drop)  As she will do after every fall, she came running to me for support but this time I noticed her tail was limp. After a quick visit with me she took off down the hall and is now hid away in a closet. I don't want to bother her but I do want to know if she's ok. She hasn't made any sounds of pain and she seemed fine trotting over to me and running down the hall. What should be my coarse of action??? Thank you for your help.

I would get her from hiding, take her into a small room (such as a bathroom), close the door and examine her. Get her to walk around for you. See if there are any noticeable injuries. Check her tail over and see if you get any movement.

If she is able to walk, but the tail is indeed still limp, it's quite possible she has injured a nerve.

Any injury should be checked out by your vet.

Yeah, she's came out twice and her tail is indeed limp still. I believe she's confused by this. The first time she came out, she gave a look around, then gazed at me then took off back to the closet. The second time she came to me and I gave her a couple pets along her side before she took off. I didn't want to touch her tail beings that I want her to at least feel comfy being out here.

It will be difficult to examine her tail because she has always been a skiddish cat and its taken the whole 6 years for me to get her to just lay next to me. I appreciate the feedback. Thank you.
