Hi all--

Penny started vomiting on Monday night (3 nights ago) and we've been to the vet twice and the animal ER once this week with no results pinpointing the issue. All her blood work came back completely fine and her organs seem to be in healthy condition. Her X-rays also show no problems whatsoever. She was given fluids on tuesday and wednesday, an appetite stimulate and nausea medicine but none of it is working. I'm desperate for answers, if anyone has heard of or know a similar case, please PLEASE share!

I was through a lot of the same, and it took a month before we established my cat has a lung infection. Did you get x-rays and ultrasounds done? Contrast xray?

Thank you so so much for replying!!! We only got an X-ray done and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. What helped pinpoint the lung infection in your cat? Is your cat okay now?? We're going to do a blood test for pancreatitis next but maybe I should suggest the lung infection possibility to the vet???

It can be anyting. With my cat we suspected pancreatitis (cause of sympthoms), then lung infection (cause of xray), then gallbladder infection (cause of ultrasound), then after a month I got desperate and forked out on a CT scan. Then it was obvious! he had practicly no visible sympthoms of a lung infection though, like counghing, sneezing or heavy breathing. Still it was very clear on the ct.

With a contrast scan you can see if everything passes through the system like it should do. Its a place to start. That, with maybe an ultrasound and a SAA test to see if she might have an infection in her body, and a general test to check liver and kidney values, bloodcells ect.

If that doesnt get you anywhere you could also have them do a blood test for protein levels, which can help you rule out some of the most serious diagnosis as a main suspect.  You can test for mycoplasma, stool samples for paracites and other bacterias, urin tests for urin ifections. There's lots of things you can test for, so dont give up. A good vet will help guide you through whats the most benefitial and logical place to start. Its might be too expensive and unnecessesary to do all at once.

My cat just got on the right treatment two days ago, so she is still quite low on energy. But I got a lot more faith now, that I know what demon we are fighting here.

Thank you for the hope! Penny also isn't showing any visible symptoms besides the gagging. Our X-rays came back totally normal, did you see the lung issue on your initial X-ray? I hope that your cat feels 100% soon!

At first sight they didnt see anything. At a second look, they could see tiny black spots on the lungs. At least get the pancrea test, and a all over chemistry of bloodcells, liver and kidneys.

Ofc you shouldnt lose hope yet ! Keep us updated!

Went back to the vet today, and got an ultrasound and it showed no blockage. They're saying it's either inflammatory bowel syndrome or cancer. We're hoping for the former and treating her for it with steroid injection, new food and probiotics. Poor baby girl. :(

Have they checked to see if it's Gastritis? Minnie was diagnosed with Gastritis 2 weeks ago and she started vomiting again but the treatment 2 weeks ago worked he gave Cerenia and Metronidazole, but he did warn me it could come back. Her lab results were normal also. Keep posted about Penny please.

Hi again!

Good news! Penny has responded to the IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease) medicine (steroid tablet a day)!! She has been slowly getting her energy back and eating more and more of her new probiotic food. At this point, she's practically completely back to being herself again!!! We're so happy and thankful this medicine worked out, we would've been devastated if not. Thank you guys for the support! Leo-- Im so sorry to hear Minnie is feeling ill, I pray she gets better immediately!! It's so incredibly scary to see them in such a helpless state! Here's to Penny, Minnie and Carinajosefine's cat, may they fully recover and live long, healthy lives!
