Can burning scented candles cause coughing in cat?

I rescued my furbaby 8mths ago.  He does this coughing thing, the coughing episode is short but painful for me to watch.  But he has NEVER thrown up a hairball. I took him into the vet because someone said the coughing could indicate other health problems.  The vet did blood work and urine and everything came back normal.  His lungs and chest were clear when the vet listened to them.  He is young, maybe around 2yrs old and has a clean bill of health otherwise.

The vet suggested it could be asthma and we are documenting how often he coughs.  I sometimes burn candle oil and was wondering if that might be the cause of the coughing?  I am not going to burn it anymore and see if the coughing stops.

Thanks for any input.

Sure it could be an asthma attack brought on by burning candles, but it could also be a lot of other things.   As an asthma sufferer, I  urge you bring your cat back to the vet for more testing- and to rule out other things that mimic asthma such as heart disease, pneumonia or a diaphragmatic hernia.  Your cat will likely need an xray and careful listening of his breathing.

Thanks.  For now, the vet wants me to document the coughing episodes.
