Hi everyone! I have a year old cat that I have been taking care of for the last two months. She came to me pregnant and I'm almost positive she mated around 8/23-8/25 of this year. She is a young cat under a year old, and this is her first pregnancy so when she first started showing signs of pregnancy I took her to get checked out. She is very healthy and very affectionate. The best cat I ever had! About two days ago I was laying on the bed next to her and she jolted up and cried for about 15 seconds and then when I looked at her rear end she had a yellow muscous glob coming out of her privates. I was wondering is this a mucous plug and a sign of labor? As of today she has been eating a lot and very tired. Her predicted due date would be sometime this weekend, but is it possible she could go into labor sooner? I appreciate any feedback! And yes she will be spayed after this litter has weaned.

It does sound like it was her mucus plug. She may or may not go into labor sooner, but losing the plug does signal that her time is near.

Keep us updated. What a pretty kitty!

Yes, she should be having her kittens soon. It's the early sign she will be going into labor. When it is time she will pant heavily. Normally cats have kittens with no problems on their own but if you are home I would keep an eye to make sure everything is ok.

Agree. They can also have some precontractions, its a way of Mother Nature to prepare them and their muscles... Lets hope she doesnt go inte too early labor - its usually not good for the kittens - cat kittens dont manage well to be premature, unlike human babies.

Thank you everyone for the feedback! I have been home with her all today and she has been resting. Around 5 or 6 she stopped eating though and hasn't had anything in the last 6 hours which is odd for her, she usually eats every couple hours. She is also cleaning herself a lot especially in the last hour. I have set up several nests for her but she seems to like the bottom drawer of the dresser. Also I think her stomach has dropped a little and she looks thinner than usual from above..is this normal?

Yes, the dropping is very normal, its nearing.

The stopping of eating is also quite common - and this hints the delivery is very near, along with this excessive cleaning.

rub her stomach if she allows and wants, it helps her prepare.

Good luck!

She started eating again this morning but not as much as before. She also seems to have a little discharge clear and yellow colored but she's licking most of it off. Hopefully she can wait til her due date on Saturday when I am able to be home with her all day. My boyfriend and I both have to work tomorrow and I'm so nervous she will have them when we aren't here. :(

yes, its quite common, even if its not according to the theory...     :)

Its one of the very unreliable  "very soon delivery" signs.   One of the reasons why its almost impossible to predict the exact time and hour.

Okay thank you! She is due today...and no obvious signs of labor. How much longer after 63 days can she have them?

It may take several days, even 7...   Cats seems to manage a little too long pregnancies better than humans,  as reversed to too short pregnancies.

I would say, day 65 is more common than 63, even if in books its often 63 as "the usual"

Okay thanks! I just read online about 63 days so I was looking for that but regardless I don't mind waiting! However long it takes as long as Lucy and babies are healthy! :)

Cats can even safely go longer, sometimes 70-72 days, so unless she's in distress, don't panic.

Thank you. This morning when I woke up for work I noticed a little of the same color and consistency as the mucus plug leaking from her down there. Its yellow and thick.

Hopefully it's more of the mucus plug. Otherwise, check for odor as a yellow discharge can be indicative of infection. In general, discharge is seen coming from the vulva in the couple of days prior to labor and delivery.

I checked for odor...there wasn't any and it was probably the size of a penny and then went away. She's also randomly meows but it isn't too often or for an extended amount of time.

Okay, that's good. It sounds like she is moving towards labor. She may be in stage one already, which can last for 24 hours or more.
