Hi guys, over the past few days my poor Mila has been having eye problems. She has discharge coming from her eyes and her left eye has been half closed and red. She's eating, drinking, pooping and still has quite a bit of energy, but her eyes are definitely infected or something.. Ive been doing research and it looks like it's possibly conjunctivitis. I also saw mentioned on this website that rubbing Apple Cider Vinegar between her shoulder blades or on her neck might help along with wiping her eyes with Chamomile and Rosemary infused tea. (Though there is some debate about this weather or not chamomile is toxic to cats). Because I am away for work, she's at my parents house and theyre tending to her while keeping me updated. She wont let them near her face, so they havent been able to wipe away the tears, but my mother is putting apple cider vinegar on her neck a few times a day and is also putting a warm wash cloth over her head when she sleeps, in hopes to loosen up the gunk.

I'm hoping to find advice on here because I really cannot afford a vet right now. What do you guys think will help?

If she has been like that for a few days, I would definitely recommend going to a vet. Do you have a credit card you can put it on? Maybe you can borrow money from a relative or friend? Over here, a general visit is about $50. You can go to the vet and let them look at her and discuss the extra things that will cost more. Maybe start a payment plan.

My cat has allergies and her eyes have looked like that before, but only for one day max. I've used a saline solution before. Look up the recipe. I think it's just boiled water cooled and salt. But I'm not really sure if it'll help your situation. I hope your kitty gets better soon.

Hello and glad you found us. Honestly speaking, Mila needs a vet ASAP! OTC eye remedies will not cure this and it looks infected to me at this point. Mila needs an antiviral or antibiotic eye drop right away. Eye infections can go from bad to majorly serious very, very quickly. Do not wait another day. Most vets will offer CareCredit options.

I agree with the others, if it's already bad she most likely needs to be seen. An unchecked eye infection can cause blindness in some cases... Perhaps your parents can help you out? They've helped care for her so they must have some kind of bond. Good luck with your baby, and Feralvr's links are good stuff!

H hugoandmila Any update? I am concerned for Mila. There are a couple of recent threads with "pictures" of kitties whose eye infections became severely serious to the point of almost losing the eye or worse. It can happen OVERNIGHT too - very, very quickly the eye can become filled with fluid and possibly rupture. So do not wait! Please update us on Mila. :cross: :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

Hi everyone! Thanks for your replies and concerns. We took Mila to the vet and it turns out she has a URI. She was given an antibiotic shot and we also ordered some lysine gel for her and my other kitty, Hugo. Hugo had a URI when I got him from the humane society a year ago and he was given a vaccination to prevent him from getting it again for a year, however that recently expired. We're keeping a close eye on him and keeping them separated until Mila is 100% better.

Thanks again for your advice!

You can put saline eye drops (no other medication in them, please) in her eyes to relieve any dryness and rinse away allergens, but if she has an infection, she needs antibiotic or antiviral eye drops and she needs to see the vet for those.

Let us know how she does.
